Now that all 4xe's have been cancelled, how committed will Jeep be to keeping service techs trained and available to work on these? I think the dealership where I typically go supposedly has two. I have read posts on the forms where folks have complained that a service department they go to says they don't have any. If there is a shortage of these "electric" techs now, what can we expect in the future as it is really of no benefit to Jeep anymore.

Jeep never even had their techs trained while these things were in production. It's likely they'll not give a flying %^$# now that they're gone.

Pretty much what I was going to say, beat me to it.

Realistically, once something is out of production they will support it just long enough to get most of the certified pre-owned vehicles out of coverage. Not all, when they start running out of parts they might offer a check for a calculated remainder of coverage. As in, a pro-rated remainder payment where they cover you for 6 years of a 7 year certified program, and figure they owe you for a year so hand you a check and wave.

Gm and Ford have done this also. Discontinue then try to pretend they never built something.

As with all short run vehicles with new tech that gets dropped, the likely outcome is that many will get parked and rot, or parted out.

The Chevy/GMC 4 wheel steer, and also their hybrid trucks and SUVs come to mind. I haven't seen either on the road in years. They tried some plastic truck beds in those years too., all gone.

Diesel Cherokees and Comanches, none to be found. Try to find an Electric Ranger from the late 90s-early 00s.

The real question is, with an ‘unlimited mile battery warranty’ will they have parts to support that warranty? Will EPA force them to fix the vehicles? NHTSA? Anybody?

I have less than a month left with mine before it is either traded or sold. Not gonna look back.

So far, the 2 dealers that have worked on mine have not complained of not having a tech, just that they have too much work for those techs.

I think Stellantis will still have electric vehicles and thus need electric trained techs, just probably not hybrid specific techs.

There's plenty of "tained" guys but being trained doesn't really mean you know what you're doing. I'm the only guy at my shop comfortable with diagnosing these vehicles, but we have plenty of guys that can replace parts on them once they're diagnosed.

Plus like 99.999% of 4XE repairs being under warranty doubly incentives techs to not bothering learning them.

I'd say in about ten years parts will be very hard to come by.

Stellantis still have their new eTorque to maintain, and whatever else they are rolling out, buyers need to be aware if the dealership selling them tech can actually maintain what they are selling, some dealerships even have problems maintaining simple gassers.

Realistically ⚡ is coming back with a bang in 3 years for the Big 3, if they like it or not, other manufacturers haven't let up, and goosing gas with electric is amazing tech, torque filling and all that 💩, but chances are the Big 3 will fail spectacularly again on their next pass at ⚡.

Electric is the future, just not the future that is rammed down people throat, and being bank rolled with our tax dollars for crap tech, even the money being spent on so-called infrastructure is a waste of money.

Seems the only reason Jeep killed the 4xe is because of the 💩 battery, fix the battery and it's a non issue.

Since my old low tech V10 Dodge PU nearly became scrap iron a few years ago due to an “obsolete” , no aftermarket, not repairable, no available repairable core “ignition control module” good f’ing luck with a highly computerized high tech 4xe. They were able to repair the main computer. A couple months of searching found it in a Colorado junkyard. … the next “obsolete” electronics ? And it’s got few. 🎰

I agree.

Maybe when I'm in the market for a new Jeep in 20 years it'll be a zippy little 2-door that won't blow up.

I was told that only techs certified on the 4xe platform could work on those components.
Maybe. I dunno. But I have access to the service manual and the PHEV system is pretty well documented on how to fix anything or troubleshoot any DTC. I could probably do everything at home if I bought a $1,500 Witech plug and a membership

Jeep isn't abandoning electric vehicles. They are abandoning PHEV which seems to be mostly misunderstood. It's the perfect vehicle for small towns where most stuff is within 10 miles or so. It's perfect for me, I drive it on electric 80% of the time or so. Short commute, short trips to town, most of my trips are well within the range of the battery. Many don't like it because the range is so limited on electric, either way though, you get the low torque of electric, combined HP higher than the 3.6L, and arguably better 4WD performance.

"Trained" people should still be around. Might not be specific to the PHEVs but "trained" on EVs. The letter on the lifetime warranty for the batteries will assure a supply of batteries, and will also incentivize Stellantis to keep investing in battery technology to reduce their costs on the warranty service.

Jeep (and most manufacturers) are moving toward true hybrids that use each power source where it's most efficient. More like how the 4xe operates when the Hybrid battery is depleted. Regenerative charging is prioritized keeping the hidden 15% in the battery so it can assist when needed and keep the 12v battery charged for accessories. I personally prefer a PHEV to a Hybrid, but because of the confusion and misunderstandings of the PHEV many hold prejudices against them.
