I have an autistic kid and I know how hard it is to get him exited/interested in things. So everytime he shows interest in something, my wife and I do whatever is needed to get him involved in whatever that is.
So I totally understand the mom's effort to find the Jeep.

My heart goes out to you and your family. Luke's mom, is an angel. The patience and love required to raise an autistic child is monumental ! Special parents indeed !

I don't want to hijack the thread, but it's amazing that after posting about my son, we had a very similar experience to the one posted by the PO.
We are in Salida Co for the Holidays. My wife and her sister went to a DIY jewelery workshop. Chatting with the owner of the shop, my wife found out that her husband is a blacksmith.
Oscar, our son, in addition to video games and movies, is obsessed with swords.
Harry, the shop owner's husband, told my wife to bring Oscar to his shop.
We showed up at noon at his shop thinking he was going to show Oscar his tools and projects and that's it, but he ended up forging a knife with Oscar!!!!
When we were leaving, I asked Harry how much we owed him, and he said nothing, that it was a pleasure for him teaching Oscar how to do a knife. I gave him a tip, although he didn't want to accept it.
