I have a 2018 JL Sport 13 months old with only 3000 miles on it. No one in the family will drive the JL due to the wondering steering. I have had steering issues with the JL since my trip home from the dealership. I have done all the suggested procedures lowered tire pressure, checked torque spec….ect. I have had it at the dealership three times concerning the wondering steering and recall issues. I have been satisfied with the repair work done on the JL, but they do not take the steering issues seriously. I get that’s the way they drive. They never drove with me and I suspect they never test drove the JL. From reading the thousands of steering related posts; I noted that a small percentage of folks have gotten the dealership to replace the front track bars with the new track bars with stiffer bushing and to have the toe set to the new spec. released for the JL. I am not expecting miracles at this point, I just want the JL to be as safe as possible.

Is it worth the time to contact Jeep Cares? How can you upgrade your case to ā€œstarā€ and does that really help? Is the reimbursement rate from FCA to the dealership for warranty work too low that they avoid warranty work? I just got the steering stabilizer recall and would like to get the upgrades to the steering issue (track bars and toes specs) with this visit. I have been waiting for a real solution to the steering issue before spending more time in the dealerships waiting room.

Hi Tom,
We're sorry to learn about your experience. I understand you are reaching out to your fellow forum members for advice, however, I wanted to take the opportunity to clarify what our team does. A case escalation on our end connects you and your dealer with a Case Specialist on the Customer Care side. A STAR case is something that would need to be opened by your dealer. Your Case Specialist will ensure everything is documented as well as work alongside you and your dealer to aid in identifying a resolution. If this is something you would be interested in, please feel free to send our team a private message.

Ya, hug your ankles and hope for the best...
I find FCA and the dealer just goes back and forth between each other until it's dragged out long enough that you'll leave it alone or fix it yourself. FCA can't do this without the dealer and the dealer can't do that because of FCA... it's a riddled game to get anything done. I don't know if it's a stupid set up or they're just playing stupid and set it up that way by design. Anyone I've talked to that is happy with FCA somehow scored with a really good dealership. But they don't HAVE to be that good to you if you read the fine print.
Unfortunately in my case it sat at the dealership for the two weeks of everyone trying to be my best friend but not wanting to be the one to tell me to kick rocks. Than another week on top of that without a vehicle after I finally took it to another shop and got it fixed. Tried to take it further, but once i got it fixed... I waived my rights to complain apparently. So how long was I supposed to be without a vehicle?
I wasn't going to start too much with the modding till my warranty was up... but I wasn't using money out of my pocket to put OEM parts back in my Jeep.

I appreciate the time you took for the response. Your reply seems to be fairly common among the threads. I am also afraid of just wasting time and effort. It seems the only way to actually improve my issue is with aftermarket track bars and front end parts. I still have a way to go on my warranty and do not want to void the service. I get weekly emails for extended warranty and wonder why folks would elect to continue this type of service. Still not sure why FCA system is set up this way? Thanks Tom

I hear you. DO NOT get the extended warranty. I unfortunately opted for it at purchase. I've only owned mine for 7 months and I've had the honor of experiencing how much that was worth. Could of sworn I heard a toilet flush when I paid for it...

Depending on which extended warranty you have, it may be at least partially refundable.

I bought the lifetime warranty when it was still available and plan to keep it, but I know there is a schedule for when it can be cancelled and how much I would get back.

If you’re really unhappy with yours it might be worth checking out.

Don't kid yourself about "that's the way they drive." I have a 2018 JL Sport S (3.6, auto) with 6000 miles. I have had no steering wander and no wobble. It stays straight and true. Luck of the draw I guess. Mine came that way from the factory. I had the V41 Steering Damper recall done just last Saturday. I was hesitant about doing this because I didn't want to mess up my steering. But after the damper replacement, I didn't notice any difference. Yours can be corrected. How to get it corrected is the problem.

Thanks for the reply. Glad you got a JL that tracks straight. I have no idea what makes the difference some good some bad. Based on the number of threads and complaints, must be more than a few bad JL's out there. My JL was a June build and had the frame weld recall. Not sure if FCA switched suppliers of parts at some point my guess is the steering box? Seems like service interest and quality varies a lot from dealer to dealer.

I might have to dig into that. I heard the dealership next city over is better to deal with (fingers crossed). Still have to do the steering damper recall as I just got my jeep back about a week ago. Looks like I'll be making a trip out of it. Thanks for the heads up.
