I've been looking at the Rubicon as my next vehicle. But then I see the Moab version. Is a Moab a high optioned Rubicon? Or is it more than that

This is going to be good. I vote this for Unintentional Troll Post of the Month.

Not trolling at all. Really want to know the differences to help with my future purchase.
I know. That is why I said it was unintentional. You would have to see the previous threads on this topic to understand my post, most of which have been deleted or at least locked.

I am going to write a more helpful post for you as well.

To be fair to the OP, I will also give a serious reply.

The Moab is not based on the Rubicon. It is based on the Sahara.

So if you want a Sahara with some of the more aggressive styling of the Rubicon, the Moab is a good choice. It is a great-looking edition. And it is not going to be offered in 2020 so you will have to find one on the lot.

It is no way better than a Rubicon, except in the ways a Sahara is preferable to the Rubicon - More sophisticated interior and the Auto-4WD option. This is particularly helpful in mixed winter driving conditions like you might find in the Northeast or Midwest.

Curiously it is paired with aggressive Mud Terrain tires that look great but kind of work against the on-road manners of the Sahara.

What you don't get are the of-road benefits of the Rubicon which include 4:1 transfer case, 4:10 gearing, beefier axles, auto sway bar disconnect, and front and rear lockers.

So if you are buying a Jeep for your mom, the Moab would be a good choice.

Dammit. See it just happens.

Rubicon - 4.10 gears, Rocktrac lockers, sway bar disconnect, high fenders. D44 both front back.

Moab (Sahara platform) - 3.45 gears, Selecttrac, front steel bumper, mopar rock rails, steel bumper, led lights, upgraded interior, painted fenders/freedom top and black rims with KM2. D44 limited slip back. Borrows the rubicon hood and suspension.

As a Moab owner, I think the previous post is fairly spot on. First of all remember that ANY Wrangler is very capable offroad. The Rubicon is the top of the heap, but the most basic Sport or Sahara would easily outshine most any other vehicle on any trail. The Moab is essentially a fully-loaded Sahara. Then you add in the Rubicon suspension, mud tires, etc, and it adds an extra element above another Sahara. Some on this forum have taken to calling it a "Saharicon" based on the fact that it seems to exist somewhere between the Sahara and the Rubicon - I don't think that's too far off.

I went with the Moab because while I do some occasional off-roading (5-6 times per year), it's also my daily driver and the FT AWD is a really nice feature in winter driving.

Fca would like you to think moab is a better trim by pricing it higher and puttting above the rubicon. Fact is its just a marketed appearance package for those who want a fast easy look and willing to pay extra for just looks and not function. Dont get me wrong moab does have alot of function just not as much as the rubicon. So rubicon is the higher trim level yet on website does not appear to be so my guess is becuase moab is a marketeers web for potential buys who no nothing about offroading. So if such person buys one no problem in that either as wranglers are awsome no matter what trim level.

Thanks everyone. Your explanations clear most of my questions up. Looks like I'll be staying with buying a Rubicon.

I'm a little late to the party here, but the way I see it the Moab is a Sahara dressed up as a Rubicon.

Well, I have to say I am disappointed with the civility of this thread so far. All threads comparing the Moab to the Rubicon should devolve into childish, offensive, inappropriate posts that cause the thread to be locked and one or more members banned.

It's tradition.

No MOAB starting 2020. Its probably already done.

And I see the Rubicon owners are really sensitive to Moabs?

50 bucks says my sport will go anywhere you'd take a rubicon, and I paid almost 20k less. :punch: ;) :CWL:
