I’m on Jay’s Tracking spreadsheets, and have been following all the follow up comments from the JLU owners since December. I also recognize Jay’s Sept. FCA announcement regarding the JL Feb. 2/12/18 production start up. I hope warc1 is correct regarding delivery time after build completes. Oldguynewjeep, I have no problem waiting, the frustration is the rumors presented as fact on these threads, and the opinion of a few that this is whining, if I comment.

Sorry, don’t understand the “somewhat balls” expression. I ordered in Dec.2017 with the full understanding that 2door production would not start till “after the new year”. Kind of vague, from my dealer, but I have no problem with an April dealer delivery. Not complaining, just explaining to other members waiting on two door JLs. Congrats to all the new JLU owners!
I wasnt bashing on you man, i I thought i was agreeing with you im not sure why the attitude? To me the worst kind of "whiner" are the people whining about the whining. You mention you knew that production would not start until "after the new year". Okay great, in my book after the new year is the beginning of January. If I ordered in December I thought production would start after the new year in my mind im getting my car latest March, hopefully Feb already. If that car arrived in April/May even later like it seems is going to be the case I would be pissed.

What im saying is that there is a clear unhappiness throughout these threads with the ordering and delivering process. Some people wait months in a certain status and other people that ordered after them get their vehicles. I have no allegiance to Jeep, the car looks awesome and I cant wait, but if something doesnt seem right you sure have the right to complain about it without people on the forums dumping on the complainer. There seems to be this how dare you say something bad about Jeep mentality in these threads. Why? You buy something, its super expensive, its okay to expect a certain standard and feedback. If your car is late, say so. If theres more wind noise than you expected, say so.

Just my 10 cents, please dont start a whole things about this because i dare say its okay to complain.

For the record, I ordered 2 weeks ago, I was told its going to take 60 - 90 days, so Im not complaining about myself, im just saying I feel for those who have ordered months back and still dont have their cars

Christiaan, I apologize if you think my “whining” comment was directed at you. I have never heard the expression “somewhat balls” and was looking for a clarification. On some other threads on this forum, a few are quick to pounce when a newB offers an opinion. I’ll grow a bigger pair and just lurk in the background, patiently awaiting my new JL....adios

Sounds like we’re on the same page. My, perhaps badly made, point was that dealers don’t seem to have nearly the same level of knowledge on the JL as we do. I can forgive that, except when they set false expectations. My own dealer told me 6-8 weeks and I had to educate him. Hopefully on the next order he took appropriate expectations were set.

my understanding is that jeep does more factory custom orders than any other non-luxury brand - and they have a lotta years of experience doing this

i’m super patient, and so it goes, but jeep should have anticipated a lot of update request volume and could avoid the entire issue by publishing stats on their website, with explanations of the process (ordering of automatic v standard, hard top v soft, 4 door v 2 door)

they missed a huge, huge opportunity to capture about ten zillion email addresses and buyer profiles, not to mention a ridiculous amount of goodwill

Dave, I couldn’t agree more. Their is so much built up excitement & anticipation among current and former Jeep owners for the JL/JLU launch including my wife and I. However FCA, IMO is missing the mark, keeping clients purchasing $50K vehicles informed of the timelines. If Apple launched a product like this, the media would be taking them to task. Marketing 101, and client services, not just a catch phrase.

exactly! it’s not a custom bugatti with a 2 year build cycle. on a related aside, jeep poured crazy money into toledo production sites to enable the build from toledo after caving to local pleas to remain - and now they could brag about how well it’s working. current production leads me to believe that it’s not working that well, or at best, it’s like it was before even after 700M invested

While any endeavour could be done better in hindsight, what Jeep is going through is pretty representative of new model launches.

I’d wager Corvette has the highest percentage of customer orders of any domestic brand and I’ve done three of those, all at the very beginning of a new model year. The first couple of months are always chaotic, with numerous constraints and schedule changes as the factory gets their supply chain in order. Then, the first couple weeks production are held in a quality control hold for another few weeks until the factory is confident there are no systemic quality issues. Pent up demand behind a widely published new model release means there’s an unavoidable backlog that is likely very hard to quantify.

All in all, I wish Jeep had done better with this release, but there’s a degree of uncertainty that I don’t think any level of planning can remove.

good points - and QC is huge, though they've put out a whole lot of JLU models already, and i've got to believe that it's far more evolved than it was years ago (the quality process, all of the man in the middle between tech diagnostics and phsyical/manual evaluations)...of course, corvette's average at least 2 to 3x of a basic jeep MSRP with comparable feature sets (upgrade trim with convertible, etc) - i'm talking about cars that trend toward 30 to 40k total cost, with features.

i have supreme confidence that they're going to plow through the backlog and flood the dealers late spring and summer with 2 and 4 doors in all trim levels, which puts them about 6ish months into full productions - it's just a bummer for people sitting on their hands right now.

Warc1, I like your explaination, different perspective. I and probably others here have not had the experience of ordering from the factory, especially during a new model launch. I won’t bore you with all the trucks and 4x4 vehicles, new & used i’ve owned and rehabbed. The last in 2011 was the Grand Cherokee, new from the dealer I just ordered the JL from. The GC has been flawless, great customer care from dealer, very satisfied. And both adult kids copied me and purchased Grand Cherokees.

Hey everybody, just checked status on my Rubicon 2door, hardtop, penestar/8speed, granite crystal ordered 12/19/17. Been in D status 30 Days. No build day set. Hypothetically, if build starts March 1 on my vehicle, our dealer probably won’t see truck for 10-12 weeks. See uploaded screen shot. Very frustrating......

It wont be 12 weeks according to my dealer. Here is their response when I asked for for an update: The good news is that yes, the building has begun. I looked into your order & I do see that the first Jeep that we ordered you has a scheduled build week of beginning of March so, I am assuming your Rubicon will soon be scheduled. I will check every day & let you know if anything changes. I also have a few sold-order Wranglers on order that I am anticipating an update on. Keeping fingers crossed!! I also received a call and was given a delivery estimate for the Rubi (ordered a couple weeks after the first Sport order) of late March early April.

Just went into D1 with a 2/24 estimated ship date.
2 door, Rubi, 3.6, 8sp, black hardtop. Ordered 12/29.

From my sales advisor
Just jumped into the system and took at a look at your vehicle. These are only estimates but it appears they have an estimated ship date of February 24th. I will continue to check it on a regular basis and let you know where it is during its journey and when it officially ships. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank You
