Hey there. Was hoping since ya'll are pulling off-road trailers you might help me with a question I have about pulling just a utility trailer.
I have a JLU Sahara with the towing package. My previous JK Sahara pulled a utility trailer with hay bales all day long with no problems.
When I hooked up the JL (which the back-up camera made me look like a pro) it was tight because of the spare which now sits lower. But once hooked up no problems driving with it to pick up hay. Picked up same amount of hay with same trailer but this time had vibration within the jeep on the way back. What is that from? Is it something I'm doing wrong? Thanks for any input.

Only thing that comes to mind is load and weight distribution.... can cause handling issues.

Maybe so. Was rolled bales of hay which sat back towards end of trailer. Thanks!

If the majority of the weight was behind the axles at the end of the trailer (furthest from vehicle) it will behave badly and swing all over. It can get violent and cause an accident.

Most weight is either over or just ahead of axle for best towing behavior.

Makes sense. Last batch were much bigger and took up entire trailer therefore must have evened things out.

I learned real quick towing a boat up and down the Keys that you need a good 10-12% on the tongue. When I first started towing that thing the tail was definitely wagging the dog...

Visual demonstration....priceless. Wow. Grateful wasn't able to drive any faster than I was due to extra heavy traffic. Probably saved me from causing an accident. Thank you for showing that.

I saw a guy loose his boat that way. Not a good day.

No worries.... it’s a life lesson you don’t want to learn the wrong way. Glad it helped.

I’ve been eyeballing Cargo Craft’s “off road” line for a bit. They make a few custom rigs depending on personal needs. I’m pretty much settled on my “Tramper” (trailer-camper) decision....Best of both worlds for my needs since I can have it customized with tons of features. Coloradotrailers.com is a dealer but any Cargo Craft dealer should be able to order.

The first pic is the exact trailer that I own. Its sweet. I put a Rhino Rack 2.5m Awning on it. I have yet to build out the front end with a system to hold my tubs and fridge on a slide, but dual purpose. It hauls my BMW and I can camp in it as well.

Loads of information about offroad and expedition trailers can be found on Expedition Portal or at this link: http://forum.expeditionportal.com/forums/42-Expedition-Trailers

Here is a poor pic of my trailer in action last year at Overland Expo.
