I am obsessed with the posts of people getting their factory orders.

But i have to admit many of the builds seem to be similar to Jeeps readily available on dealer lots.

I think i am going to have to factory order to get my options (sting gray, premium soft top, manual sport s). But i would much rather just pick one out on a lot.

For those who are doing a factory order, why are you going that route?

When I was looking on lots for a JK, I could not find one in the color I wanted with the exact packages and/or options. I would have had to either sacrifice something or pay more for something I did not want. While looking, I learned about the JL, so it was not a total loss. If you are going to spend $40,000 - $50,000+, you should get exactly what you want.

I’m doing it, because it’s pretty well known that dealers check most the boxes on dealer orders, which means leather and automatic.

I wanted my Rubi with neither of those, so might as well get it exactly the way I want it!

You will also likely get a better price. Dealers have an allotment and once vehicles show up, they are paying interest charges for financing their allotment. So not likely to go below invoice pricing as you may have seen from the other Jeeps being ordered. Of course you do get your vehicle right away!

Cost.

You will get lucky to grab a JL on a lot for under MSRP.

Orders can be had for 5% under invoice fairly easily. That's approximately $5k under MSRP. Depending on your build, of course.

To get exactly what I want. There’s also something about ordering your own and tracking it from the beginning. And to get ā€œ this was built especially for ā€œyour name ā€œ. On the window sticker.

I’ve always bought used. Now that I’m thinking of buying new, I don’t want one that random schmucks have test driven, possibly violating the break-in recommendations and/or misusing 4 wheel drive or...

Anyone have a Idea when the Sting Gray will be available. Waiting patiently to put my order in. I think the Sting Gray will work well parked next to my Cement Gray TRD PRO 4Runner.

They don't have the option package I want. There's no extra cost to order, so I may as well get the exact setup I want.

Also, in theory it should be cheaper for the dealer to have the vehicle sale guaranteed vs sitting on their lot, putting it on the website, test driving it, etc. So no overhead for them.

It's a bit of dough, so I'd like it with the features I want and I would prefer not to pay for things I don't want.
Specific to JL (and, perhaps, to my area) - looking at the prices - no way I could score a deal I did via Koons in the area, and I believe that deal is for orders only.
Specific to me - I want a manual - it's impossible to find one around here. The closest in stock is 150 miles away from me, but it has a bunch of things I don't want. I somewhat predicted this situation based on looking at JKs mid-last year.

Like somebody else said who wants your vehicle that you’re going to pay $50,000 for two have been driven by random people who are just basically out for a joy ride. Additionally a lot of the time the dealer you’re purchasing from will get your car from somebody else’s lot up to 150 miles away. And then when you take delivery of it you come to find out they drove it from that dealer to yours so now your brand new vehicle has 200 and some miles on it. Plus when you order it it just feels different. The wait while it is being built is excruciating but fun at the same time. That day when you Finally get word that the car has been delivered to the dealer and that you can come pick it up there is no other feeling like that. Then to there’s the cost thing that everybody else is talking about. You cant usually get as good of a deal on a car off the lot as you can on one you do a factory order on.
