Hello,

Saw a JKUS today with 35" tires, including the spare. When he applied the brakes, the third brake light appeared to be in the backside of the spare tire and it basically lit up the rim from the back, all around the circumference. My wife and I thought it looked pretty cool.

I'm wondering if it was a custom job or if there is a kit for this? I didn't have the opportunity to stop him and ask about it unfortunately.

I think you have to drill out a hole in the center for the backup camera. Probably have some cheaper versions on amazon or ebay

That's it! Thank you for the link. :)
If you remember, let me know how it goes and post up here. Will you be running this in addition to the factory 3rd brake light or have you gotten larger tires so this will be the only 3rd brake light you run?

You do have to cut a decent size hole in the product so you have to be up for that.. have the necessary hardware to cut the hole. Not that big of a deal but you do have to cut a hole through thin metal.

Important point... This product is not, again, not DOT approved. IF your State has annual State Vehicle Inspections, the offering may very well not be acceptable as a 3rd brake light. You'd fail the State Inspection..

As for wiring and installing. Cut the hole, and bolt on... little more. As for powering the product, you take the 2 wires and splice them into the stock 3rd brake light wire harness. Very easy, just use two saddle clamps but be sure to tape up well. Suggest you do not cut the stock electrical connector off the stock 3rd brake light harness. Just splice into the 3rd brake light harness with a saddle clamp. This way you can easily reinstall the stock 3rd brake light if ever desired. Also, you can run both the 3rd brake light and this product together.

Also, Rugged Ridge offering is very pricey. No way would I pay that. Suggest you go with the $34+ ones you find on amazon or at eBAY.

By the way, you do know there is a Mopar 3rd Brake Light middle of the tire offering for the JL right...

Amazon offering others have used successfully:

@Rhinebeck01 ,

Luckily I am a professional amateur collector of tools, so I believe I already have a 2 3/4 hole saw and/or other cutting tools. And amazingly enough, Ohio does not require vehicle inspections yet so I am lucky on that front as well.

I've seen the Mopar middle of the tire offering, but I like the rim being lit up all around from the inside. Looked kind of neat and my wife liked it as well, so any time I can get my wife on-board with mods I'm doing it! I will be using this in addition to the factory 3rd brake light for now.

Plus, I think Mopar missed the mark with their offering. They should have had the jeep grille lit up from the inside, like an evil glow of some sort rather than the jeep grille simply under the brake light. Probably would be simple to make/modify, which I might do if/when I buy 35's.

Will do. I wont be keeping the third brake light. As much as I say I am going to keep the factory 33's for most of their life... I probably wont and will be getting bigger tires :jk: With that being said, it may only be 35's, so the third brake light would still be an option.. I just personally like the look of those rings:)

Mine should be arriving courtesy of Amazon tomorrow. I'm not even entertaining the idea of ditching the KO2's til they are worn out (so far....) it was one of my selling points to my wife!

i know, old thread, but... has anyone been able to locate a y-adapter wiring harness for the third brake light cable? the wires connect to the base of the light with a little snap on plug. I'm hesitant to tap into the wires because FCA warranty, and y-adapter would solve that concern. thanks
