So, After speaking with Jeep Cares, They wrote back that:

"Unfortunately none of the IPOD NANO's are compatible with your system"

So... arguably the broadest available music source in the world is not compatible with the Jeep JL Infotainment system.

This is interesting in that the system will occasionally recognize it and some of the functions will work, but That's the answer from Jeep Cares.

This is their explanation for the Ipod not being recognized (but sometimes it is) and Ipod going to Sleep and Ipod functions and play lists not available...

I suggested that a car also touting Apple Car play and Multiple aux input's might include this omission in information...

I have asked what music media players are compatible... we'll see what the answer is.

I likely wouldn't expect it to work with Apple Car play either but I honestly didn't think they still made these things, let alone people still buying them.

Also it still works perfectly fine, as will all MP3 players, if you use the 2.5mm headphone jack.

Needing to use the headphone jack and scroll manually on the pod rather than using your "super-upgraded" 8.4 inch Uconnect seems pretty stupid.

Nearly every other car on the road will take nearly every reasonably modern apple device, including all Ipod Nanos... Works in our Honda, Mustang, Works in sisters Subaru, Works in BMW/merc/ the Tahoe across the street...

The Pod / "I" device base language is virtually universal - Except this...

And it's so odd that the Jeep Cares folks had to check around for an answer. My guess is that the tech was probably just as surprised as I was.

I found this to be true also. After purchasing my CPO Sport S I plugged my Nano in and it worked. However after leaving the Jeep and restarting it would not recognize USB2/iPod. I would have to unplug the Nano and replug for it to work. After calling UConnect I was told Nano won't work. I switched to my 2YO iPod which seems to have solved the problem. Cray Cray!

I bought my Rubicon in May and have been using a 6th gen Nano in USB2 ever since. The only issue I have is having to unplug and replug it everytime the Jeep has been off for more than about 10 minutes. Other than that everything else works fine. Is that supposed to be the only issue with the Nanos?

Thats what I understand from talking with the Uconnect folks. When I used my Nano which I believe is a gen 6 I had the same issue as you. However when I switch to the latest Gen iPod (not Nano) walla problem solved. My JLU was at the dealership for vacuum pump replacement and 4 days later I got in and Uconnect immediately recognized the iPod.

I tried my old Ipod and it did the same thing. It's a very old ipod though. Guess I'll see what I can get a used newest gen Ipod for on ebay. I just like having all my music in one place.

Unplug and replug has almost become routine for me, kinda like the folks who turn off ESS. My nano acts the same as everyone above.

Well I just ordered a used 7th gen iPod classic on eBay so we will see if that is any different.

Well, I received my 7th gen iPod Classic annnnnnnd same damn problem. Have to unplug/replug just like the Nano. I think that's the biggest issue with the Uconnect system, is just the vast amount of problems and there not being any real pattern to it. I honestly feel lucky because the only issues I really had are this, and the occasional disappearing guidelines on the backup camera. Other people are having blue screens, unresponsive screens, random audio noises, volume control issues, Carplay not working, the list just never ends.

Stopped using the Nano because of the connection issue and switch to using Gen 6 iPod. Was working flawlessly for a week and today it had a connection problem when starting the JLU. However I just started the JLU and it’s working.
