I wash/rinse the Jeep

With that rubber cover you will get tons of condensation in the hitch and on the mechanisms.

Sealing it doesnt allow it to "breath"

Just saying bud
guess ill open up and spray with a wd40 every once in a while, lol..

So I guess you have a manual, right?
Looks like you had an airbubble in the clutch then? That might have made you clutch slip and turn over you engine.

I do have a manual.

No air. This was just caused by the weight of the Jeep overcoming the compression in the motor.

I re-geared a couple months ago, which made it easier to turn the Jeep over through the transmission.

I simply forgot to set the brake. My brain was somewhere else emotionally at the time.

@chevymitchell Dude, you are the coolest customer I've ever seen. I would have been on the ground crying and rolling around. Oddly enough people tend to try to roll me back in the ocean when I do that.

If you ever think about a career change and wanna be a flight test pilot I will definitely train you!

Great looking Jeep! By the care you take with your place I'm sure you'll have everything inspection order in no time.

Yes, I get the "nylon strap" as other sunshade vendors send similar to get the bunchie through.... what I'm asking is how are you securing the front bunchie's to the windshield header?
Just like that. It wraps right around and you secure the bungee with the ball on the inside of the Jeep.

Back in the day when I had a manual, I always put it in reverse when pointing downhill. Is that not a thing people normally do?

Haha. Thanks man. I do take care of my things. I can only go as fast as the insurance company allows. They don't do anything fast.

I don't know, man. It's not something I've ever done. I've always just put it in 2nd and set the parking brake. The engine will turn over in a fwd gear or reverse. I just didn't set the parking brake. My JK, Camaro, Vette have all been manuals and I've been parking them the same way since I bought this house in 2006. I made a mistake. That coupled with high winds and 4.88 gears, the Jeeps weight just simply turned the motor over enough to let it go down hill. If you watch the video, it took 17 minutes for it to roll. 25 feet and then it finally turned the motor enough to hit the shed.

I've seen this debated. Some, like myself, say the lowest gear that opposes the slope, as I mentioned earlier. Others say the lowest gear regardless of slope, so Reverse. Some are dead-set against leaving it in gear, thinking it is too hard on the gears and transmission.

I personally will not use my parking brake. It may be different on the JL (I don't have mine yet) but the JK hand brake is shit and cannot hold it at all. Even if it could, I won't use it in the winter months out of fear of the brakes freezing and being torn off once proceeding (heard a few horror stories, so I prefer to just avoid) and I don't want to get in the habit in the warmer months then forget to shake it for winter.

Just my view on it :like:

Being a MN farmboy, I can relate to not using the brake. We never set it growing up because it would inevitably freeze up on you. I've never used reverse simply because the engine should never be given the opportunity to run backwards, but it's really just the habit. I habitually set it in 2nd, pull the brake, and shut the jeep off. The extra weight of all the mods plus adding 4.88's, just makes it easier to turn the motor over through the transmission. The parking brake actually holds really well. There's been a noticeable amount of cable stretch since new and probably could use an adjustment, but I used it a lot in the mountains out in Colorado. I was able to trust it. I'll just be a bit more weary now.

Installed RC spacer lift on Saturday. Looks so much better and no more rubbing the back fender. I also put on some Rubi rails a couple weeks ago.

Sliders with steps are next. Wife and kids had to climb into the Jeep last night and didn’t like it too much.
