93 Octane! I like it!

my first tank from the dealership i would get a knock at idle sometimes. next tank was 93 octane and the knock at idle is gone and MPG has increased a good bit. . granted i have less than 500 miles on it so far. So its still breaking in, but i did notice a change between the two (2019 JLUR 2.0 turbo)

I am running a new 2018 Rubi with the 2.0 turbo (and 8 speed). My first tank from the dealer I believe was 87. It ran ok, no knocks. I then went to a tank of 89 (no 91 available). I didn't see much change. Maybe a little more positive through the gears at slightly more than standard from the stop light acceleration load. Nothing to make me pay the price difference.

I am now on a tank of 93 (still no 91 found in my area). I believe my 2.0 4 banger really likes the 93. My butt dyno says that everything is more responsive and more positive through the gears. I wanted to love the 87 because there is almost 50 cents per gallon price difference, but, I will now HAVE to pay the butchers bill because there is no doubt in my mind that there is a significant performance yield.

My butt dyno bonafides: I am a 68 y/o retired Army Sergeant with an honest 52 year history of driving jeeps. I started with my own CJ3A used in 1966, owned CJ5, CJ7, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and now 2018 Rubi. Also drove the Army Jeeps till they were replaced by the new stuff. My butt calibration is old, but, I trust it.

My 2 cents is that the 2018 Jeep implementation of the 2.0 Turbo really likes 93 MUCH better than the 87. I still haven't found 91.

That’s different. The 2.0 is supposed to run 91. It doesn’t recommend running 87. That’s the opposite of the 3.6 in question.

Race gas gives me the best performance. 115 octane smokes all 4 tires down the 1/4 mile.

I just checked my manual 18 Rubi 2.0 says 87 minimum - 91 recommended. 87 was ok but it is cold weather. Might knock in the summer. All the rest is per my post. Sorry if this is a 3.6 only post. Old guys are pushy.

If your 3.6 runs better on premium it’s because of one or two things
1) your gas station sucks and is providing terrible 87 octane gas. Call your state’s department of agriculture for a gas station audit
2) your engine is jacked. Go to the dealer.

I skipped breakfast and drive my Jeep on an empty stomach. I felt a huge difference in acceleration and gas mileage.

The 3.6 needs 87 Octane.
So if your using 93 in your 3.6 your just having FANTASIES of it running better and CONVINCED YOURSELF it works.

I put Av gas in mine and I got 100mpg but had a hard time keeping it on the ground.
