Found this video that details the 8.4 radio pretty good with android auto (around the 8:20 mark) and Apple Car Play (about the 6:00 mark). I dont recall seeing this posted anywhere yet, if it was I do apologize.

We use Android Auto in our Explorer. I like the fact that the jeep Uconnect does not remove the other buttons from the screen that control other parts of the car. The explorer removes those and you have to exit Auto in order to change the A/C temp for example.

I am fairly versed on Android Auto myself - I have used it for years. If anyone has any questions I should be able to answer them.

If you were wondering - Android Auto completely owns the car stereo space - Apple CarPlay is a little ways behind.

Can tell, gotta go through a bunch of pop ups to setup for Android Auto, Apple just need to plug in...heh. My experience with Android Auto is opposite from your point of view but always boils down to preference. I do recommend using Waze for Apple CarPlay.

Decent video and light years better than the JK UConnect.

Waze isn't on Apple Carplay unless you Jailbreak and do some fancy work.

It's only compatible with Android Auto.

Are you referring to the informative steps when first using Android Auto? That isn't much to complain about. lol

Android is leaps and bounds beyond Apple in almost every aspect, including the car interface. The openness of Android will win over the proprietary Apple products in almost every aspect.

Google maps, as another point, is leaps and bounds better than Apple Maps as well. And, of course, with Apple Carplay you are stuck with terrible Apple maps.

I don't blame you for that vote. I'm pretty sure that Darth Vader and the Emperor sit on Apple's board. Luke, on the other hand, uses an Android...

Nope. I just plug the phone in and it is on. No need to do anything.

I think the reference to pop ups is initial set up only type stuff for certain phones, or possibly certain versions of Android. I just recently got a Note 8 so once I get my Jeep I will be able to clarify if thats necessary or not.

Regardless of which phone you have be it Android or iPhone, I would not let the phone itself sway your decision to upgrade to the 8.4 for the added features (saw this on another post somewhere)......these days people keep phones for 2 years or less.....unless you are leasing your JL with no intention of buying it out, chances are it will stick with you for far longer than that. Not to mention our phones already know more than we do.....damn decepticons....

I was told last week by a salesperson that Android Auto was wireless in the 2018 JL. (Apple Car Play needs to be plugged in.) Can anyone verify that?

I think the salesperson was confused. Android auto does now exist in a wireless version, and this head unit would likely work for that (since it has wifi built in), but it isn't currently setup for wireless Android Auto. That would be something uconnect would have to setup.
