I think this was more of an issue back in the 70's and 80's. Manufacturing processes have improved a lot since then. I bought a first year, 2005 Toyota Tacoma, never had a problem with it. Yeah, it was a Toyota, but still.

Plus, it isn't like they are using components that haven't been proven in past versions of the Wrangler and other vehicles.
I have a first year of the newest gen. Tacoma and the truck is flawless in every way.

That generation did have problems with the trans and new atkins cycle engine combo initially. I have researched those as well, I still have not decided between a JL and taco. I currenlty have a 2008 taco, love it, no problems ever, but was not a redesign. Overall am huge toyota fan, had 5 total now.

It’s my first Tacoma and I love it but I wouldn’t do much off reading with it because it doesn’t compare to a Jeep in that department.

I loved my 05 Taco too, but compared to this Rubicon, there is no comparison really, way more capable in every respect. Unless you need a truck, I would get the JL.

Usually its never a good idea to buy the first year of production after a redesign on a vehicle.
I reject this premise. I get what you are saying but in today's car building age I simply don't agree that this is true. I could agree with "Sometimes . . . " or perhaps even "Often . . ." but stating "Usually" indicates that the majority of 1st year production vehicles encounter issues significant enough to create headaches for their owners. And I simply don't believe that's the case in 2018 and hasn't been for quite a while. Just my $0.02.

I think we have more to worry about from QC issues than the mechanicals on this one ;)

I've been over mine pretty closely, and the only things I found so far, in terms of QC issues, is a very faint color splotch that looks a bit like a fingerprint on the red dash over the glove box. It may just be a grease mark. I tried to wipe it off with a damp cloth, but I may try a little low grade rubbing alcohol. 99.99% of people wouldn't notice it. The other is the clear film they put over the front of the passenger side rear fender flare. It has a corner peeling up, maybe 1/2 a millimeter. I'm just going to carefully trim it off. I was thrilled they put that protection there. That's it, so far. I'd rank it as the best I've seen on initial inspection of any new vehicle I've owned. That ain't bad! I'll continue to go over it, though.

I did notice something nice, while closely inspecting. They put chip resistant paint on the inside of the tailgate. My JK has been chipped, battered, and bruised there, so this is a very welcome addition!

.

Thanks for sharing this positive info - it is a relief after reading some of the other issues that have been discovered on newly delivered JLs.

I had the old 78 4x4 toy pick up and other than the rattling heat sheild it was awesome, how ever when I bout a new 82 pick up the transmission was crap na I wen tthrough 5 transmissions before dumping it. apparentley the gear shafts rode on bare alluminum casing and failed constantly ---- toyota quality is a perception not a fact. don't ask about my supra or land cruiser.

I had an old 96 4 Runner that was pretty good, overall, but it wasn't perfect like some of the Toyota fanboys claim they are. It had some weird issues, including a shake at certain speeds that Toyota dealers could never solve. It also had some rust issues, and a quirky electronic brain that left my wife in the middle of an intersection with no power to the wheels and cars from every direction honking at her and going around her. I had to talk her through shutting it down, taking the key out, and sitting there for about 4 minutes, for it to reset itself. Once it did, she was able to put it in gear and drive off. Those 4 minutes felt like forever to her. She thought someone was either going to T-bone her or attack her.

Let’s just hope we don’t have a repeat the last time the Wrangler was redesigned.

Usually its never a good idea to buy the first year of production after a redesign on a vehicle. For those who have already bought why take that risk? Fore those who have not and are waiting for second year of production what about the JL is giving you concerns? I have heard that chrysler is not known for quality, but had the impression that lately it has improved.
The jeep wrangler is their cash cow for sure. So releasing a new wrangler with problems and recalls would be a huge set back and hard to restore trust from the jeep loyalists once that is broken, and the preception is tarnished? I would think jeep would not release until they where sure the wrangler was solid (they could sell jk's until jl comes out anyways, so why risk it)? So do you think this is a quality re-design based on what is known today?
Jeep Wrangler JL For all the people who have bought/order JL? Why risk first year production of redesign? 6164BDD8-6D67-47B2-93BD-C7D178CA0057

You really love posting the same thing in multiple threads don't you?
Yeah, and always bringing back those stupid comments on what’s a real wrangler, or a real jeep guy...
Have seen plenty of 4 door models, waiting on the 2 door, to me that’s a real Wrangler.
