I'm one of those people! Jeep aint putting anything in the Kool-Aid... I just love loud stuff lol. I've grown up around cars, working on them with my dad, going to NHRA when I was an adolescent (can't get any louder than that), so I like to hear loud turbos, I like loud exhausts (that are actually functional) and the loud fan on my Jeep is awesome! I absolutely love it, :involve: and I do see it as a safety precaution.

Quiet vehicles and I, do not get along, as the noise is part of the driving experience, IMO. The only time I like quiet is when I'm doing yoga or when I'm sleep! :cwl:
It must drive you crazy when ESS kicks in and everything goes quiet. lol

ROFL...well...I stopped using ESS because a Jeeper that I met told me that he read that it caused the fires as when the engine is cranked, too much fuel is being dumped. IDK if this is true or not but the ESS drives my parents CRAZY! So whenever I tote them around, I turn it off so they don't get annoyed lolll! So now, I'm sorta use to it being off...although when I'm in heavy traffic I'll let it stay on to get the full benefit. But yes...when it shuts off and I hear nothing, it's not fun!

I will say tho, that I have been enjoying my autostick <3. I had one on my previous car, so having this in the Jeep is a bit fun without needing a manual tranny.

I love loud cars. On the track (I can hear Houston Raceway in my house on weekends). I can deal with MODERATELY loud exhaust. I have one (on a sports car because it’s functional and adds power). I dig hearing turbo whine or a BOV on a well built and tuned vehicle. But an excessively loud cooling fan? Just loudness for loudness sake? Nah. A horn is a safety device. A loud cooling fan is just subpar engineering IMO. We have to disagree on this one.

Do you remember to turn of ESS every time you start it? I'm at about 80% turning ESS off right after I start up the JL. 20% of the time when I forget, I remember when someone laughs at an intersection (driver next to me, pedestrian, and anyone else who is staring because of the loud fan) when it "stalls" and they hear a faint "G damit!" coming from my JL. lol Most people don't notice that newer vehicles stop/start because they are quiet/discreet. But no.... I have to drive something that says HEEEYYY LOOOK OVVVEER HERE BECAUUUSEE ITTTT ISSS SOOO LOUDDDD. Then dead silence when ESS turns it off. I've been on the fence to get the Tazer JL, which can disable ESS 100% of the time. If that the fire issue is true, that might be the final push needed to buy it. And Tazer JLs are then going to be sold out.

and yea lol, I remember to turn it off as soon as Jeep is cranked lol! It's one of my many "checks" I go through once i get inside!
- lock the manual doors
- unlock "THE CLUB" security device!
- connect my old iphone 4 to USB or bluetooth - for UConnect
- Crank it
- Turn ESS off!

The club? Seriously? lol I had one of those once. And I was actually digging around for it after I got the JL but couldn't find the key. :( When I have my iPhone plugged in and I'm talking with someone over the internal JL speakers and the AC fan goes into turbo mode / max volume, they say "did you roll your windows down? WTF, I can't hear you now." So I have to turn the A/C down so the fan stops screaming, roll the windows down so I don't sweat to death, then they can hear me WITH the windows down. Go figure. Needless to say, I'm really hoping that TSB does fix the LOUD fan.

I had TSB 18-041-18 Rev A applied in September (PCM flash update). Does rev B need to be applied since Rev A doesn't mention the fan noise and my fan is still loud? Or is the flash update the same and just the bulletin info was updated?
The PCM flash has been updated as of Oct. 16, therefore you will need to have Rev B applied if your Jeep is displaying the added symptoms (in this case, the excessive noise).

I notice it more when air conditioning is on
Yes. There are several threads on this. Some claim that it slows down after about 15 minutes. I suppose if running the A/C it might be a full speed all the time.
Mine to sounds like a jet getting ready to take off, more so when AC is set to max
Same here, super loud and caught me off guard as I pulled into the garage today. Having said that, the through put of the AC is impressive.
Yeah, it runs full blast while A/C is max. Turns off when A/C is off. I’m not in love with the noise but am thankful because this thing isn’t going to overheat in our Texas summers either. :)
Did a remote start in the hopes of cooling the interior with today's sunny 95F weather,,,,,,, I was surprised by the cooling fan noise as I left the house (jet engine level is not that far off the mark:)) as A/C defaults to Max with remote start. I am impressed with it's quick cooling ability.
In ours, it has nothing to do with the remote start but it's when the ac is set to auto. Turn the ac off of auto and the fan quiets down to normal, turn it back on to auto and the fan kicks on to high and is really loud again.
Same here - goes away if I lower the A/C
Its not the cooling fan guys its the A?C cooling fan... and yes its loud ...
You mean it gets loud only when the a/c is on? Iv yet to notice it loud with a/c off. And only have a/c on while on the freeway so I can’t hear it. Been in temps over 90.
I didn’t really notice it inside the jeep the first week but I had my Jeep running today and it was in the driveway. A/C was full blast. I got out of the Jeep and couldn’t believe how loud the A/C fan was being outside the vechile. It sounded like a 747!
I park in a damn parking garage every day and I turn the AC on full blast when I leave just to make as much noise as possible. It is so freakin loud it's kind of comical :)

Aaaaand it helps mask the loud clicking sound while turning at low speed ;-)

Hi @Martindfletcher, @Jeep noob, and @jeremyjeep (in reference to your quoted posts below) -

I am not mechanically trained, and I cannot diagnose your vehicle. I came across this TSB and shared it because it sounds related to the above quoted posts pulled from this thread. Owners are describing that the cooling fan is extremely loud, more so when the A/C is set to max, which directly relates to the statement in the TSB. "Excessive blower fan noise when the A/C is on MAX output." I cannot guarantee that this will fix what you are describing, however, I can highly recommend that you discuss it with your dealer. I hope this helps.

As always, feel free to PM us.

Is this TSB about the blower fan for the the internal heating and cooling or the engine cooling fan? when the tsb says blower motor I assume it’s for heating and cooling jeep, not the fan that sounds like an f18.
Good catch. I didn’t notice that. “Blower fan” means the climate control fan in the cabin and not the engine/transmission cooling fan in the engine compartment. At least to my understanding of the terms.
I'm confused. The thread says loud cooling fan, but Jeep Cares referenced a TSB that mentions loud blower fan. Why would there be a TSB on the internal blower fan and not the external AC fan that is so loud you can't even hear the internal blower fan? Maybe the person who wrote the TSB meant the external AC fan?

Is the any way for you to ask someone who is more familiar with this TSB since you are close to corporate than the dealers are? 99% of the time the dealers aren't even aware of a TSB until customers print it and show it to them (tons of examples of this in the JL forum). And since they never heard of this TSB (I called 3 dealers out of curiosity, all 3 said there was no such TSB). I did ask 1 of the 3 after giving them the TSB number so they could look it up and they said they had no clue which fan noise it is supposed to fix. They were so clueless they said "what loud fan noise on the JL?" Seriously? Anyway, can you ask the question below to get clarity? You can copy/paste it.

Question: "TSB 18-041-18 Rev B states 'Excessive blower fan noise when the A/C is on MAX output.' Does this address the A) loud engine A/C fan in the engine compartment near the radiator that sounds like a loud shopvac when the A/C is on Max or B) is it related to the blower motor in the passenger cabin under the dash that pushes the air in the vents?"

Answer: A or B

Thanks for your help.

I don't blame you Tai. In fact you may be more than just a trend setter; you may be on to something.

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/loud-cooling-fan.9400/page-7#post-424775

I'm reading more and more stories about how key fobs should be wrapped in foil to avoid their signal being tapped. What I'm not hearing as much of is that thieves are exploiting these security limitations in significant numbers yet (which may just be my ignorance on the subject matter, not that it's failing to happen.)

But if I find out that these theft strategies are becoming this generation's version of hot wiring the ignition wires, I too will start putting my club around my brake.

I've included @Blkjak in this post Tai. He, as you may know, is the maker of these awesome leather products, one of which is a JL community much adored key fob holder that like so many on the board, I own and recommend.

Perhaps he can concoct a way to include a Faraday bag like enclosure in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage his wares to prevent the capture of fob transmissions should theft of JLs by such electronic means become prevalent.

Perhaps these articles and my understand is flawed. Those knowledgeable: please do chime in.

One thing people: at the risk of pointing out what I know many must already know, if you're going to spend the money on getting a classic physical lock based deterrent like The Club (TM) don't get the kind that goes around the steering wheel but rather the brake pedal. By safety design the steering wheel is easy cut (and you're familiar with the expression that "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link") while the brake pedal, also for safety reasons, needs to be designed out of thick/difficult to cut metal.

Peace.

2+ week old JL and I don't hear the cooling fan at all.... but it's also a Jeep, so I don't expect it to be quiet.

It has to be warm enough outside and the A/C dial inside has to be set to max. Then it will sound like this:

Has anyone gotten the new flash for the extremely loud fan noise when AC is on max? did it fix the fan noise? The TSB came out 12 days ago, someone must have gotten this flash by now.....
