I went to a local Jeep dealership and asked about the new JL Wrangler, and the salesman said the only difference between the old JK and JL was the slope in the grill.
Way too funny

I went to the Indianapolis Auto Show and the Jeep rep there told me that the JLU Rubicon there was a production unit (it obviously was preproduction) and that the 3.6 was unchanged from the JK. This was the guy supervising FCA's auto show presence! Unreal.

FYI One way to find dealers receiving JL Jeeps is to type in Model Code: JLJL74 into Google. Found a fair amount that way.

In fairness they don't just sell Wranglers. Do you know every Jeep/Dodge/Ram/Chrysler product as well as you know the Wrangler? I know it is the new new thing but it's not even on the lots yet.
I don't work for Jeep/Dodge/Ram/Chrysler. In fairness... If they are in sales, it's their job to know their products better than their customers.

I agree. If I worked 10 hours a day as a salesman, I'd know everything there is to know about each and every one of their products, including those about to be released. There is no excuse for someone to be in the thick of that business every single day and not know their product front to back, top to bottom. That said, I'm not mean or condescending to them. They are human beings and get my respect. I just need them to help me get what I want, and I don't really have any questions for them, other than, "Where's my Jeep? Please check on it."

A sales guy says to me. "......you sure you want the new one? thave all have all time 4 wheel drive" Of course, I already knew "what they had" and kindly informed him of the options. Jeeps reps are scheduled at my dealer in February, (I believe) It seems to me, reps should have been out to dealers prior to the launch! JS

No. It is their job to sell cars. And that doesn't require them to know how more about them than the occasional Rabid Jeep Geek.

And it probably also means steering customers to the cars on the lot they can actually sell and not the new thing they won't have for months.

But agree to disagree on this I guess.

I live in the panhandle of Florida. Have talked to every dealer with a 120 mile radius about the re-designed jeep. One salesman told me that there is not much difference between the JK and the new jeep. He said no 8 speed auto, no power top and the post on the jeep forums are 99% speculation. Then when the jeep build and price came online for the JL I called the Tallahassee jeep dealer to see if they could order. They laughed and said they don't have pricing yet and the FCA rep told them pricing would not be available until the end of Jan. So you are right, most salesman period are lazy, uninformed and just want to take you out to their lot and sell a car. When I bought my 2015 wrangler I talked to 6 dealers about factory ordering and none would do it. I finally found one salesman who said no problem and ordered my jeep.

Me too COBIll--and you know what the really sad thing is: while I'm no slouch, you and many others, here and elsewhere, likely know a lot more about vehicles than me, not the least of which being the Wrangler.

I think it's why I like dealers who offer a selling deal paradigms like Koons--where great prices are available to people who simply need a salesperson to click buttons on a screen to factory order their Wrangler for them.

There use to be an electronics chain in my area before the days of the internet, well known for their honesty and lowest prices, but not their customer service. "Tire kickers" would come into the store, attracted by the prices, not know what they want, and end up disappointed with the experience.

A salesperson's time and expertise is worth money in the vehicle transaction--of course that salesperson has to be knowledgeable and helpful enough to earn that money, and in fairness to them, not lose the customer to another dealership once they spent time educating the consumer.

I suppose caveat emptor, or buyer beware, never applied better than to auto sales.

My brother, who loves cars and people more than money, use to sell Oldsmobiles in FLA--big market. He knew every inch of every vehicle, it's history, future, pros/cons, he lived and breathed the stuff and use to win salesperson knowledge competition prizes. So I'm biased.

Every car salesman I've ever worked with has remarked "You know more about this stuff than I do."

Perhaps sad, but always true.
Research pays off. My wife calls me the "research whore" (affectionately of course). I'll be on the forum and she'll say.... "looking up that damn Jeep again" And it's already been ordered! Lmmfao
