On-road driving difference between anti-spin differential and none

All of my recent vehicles have had some type of limited slip rear axles (even my new Mustang convertible).
How do Rubicons, without anti-spin, handle on snowy/icy highways (even in 4-wheel drive)?
I really want to order a Rubicon, but not if I am going to slide into the ditch repeatedly.

I read a lot of these threads on other forums and many people claim it's easier to slide into the ditch with a limited slip than with an open diff, especially if you don't know what you're doing. I suspect it's because you can get both wheels spinning.

The Rubicon will still have brake lock differential which I hear is much improved, and you can always compensate for a lack of a limited slip by getting good winter tires. It seems to me that putting down more traction at the road surface to begin with is more important than any kind of differential you might have.

What I'd be interested in knowing from those with more experience would be how PT4WD drives on slick ice compared to FT4WD.

I had lockrites, front and rear, in my YJ. Manual trans. I had to make more than one run to the data center in response to late night calls where no one else could make it in. When it iced, and we do get ice storms, I would often drive with the right wheels on the shoulder of the road. My driveway went down under the house. I've had to drive through the front yard to just get to the street. In snow, I never had issues. We once had a 15+ inch snow. It was a great time.

Question as I don't currently own a Jeep. In wet conditions with ko2 tires will a jkur spin the rear tires acclerating from a stop light - lets say normal acceleration? In my GMC Sierra I have to really go easy on it unless in auto 4.

Not unless you turn ESP off. Your Jeep’s ESP/Traction Control will limit wheel spin.
OP- a Rubicon will be excellent in the snow with the lockers off.

So bottom line, I will be mostly driving my Sport S JL on road with some off road, is the anti spin worth it?

The LSD option does get you a D44 rather than a D35 rear axle. Benefit of the differential aside, the upgrade in axle strength alone could be worth the cost. That is something I wasn’t thinking about initially when this topic was discussed.

The limited slip will get you going, stopping is then your biggest trick. I have never had one in the front, that might be creepy, but in the back they are handy you can feel it grab and you start going where you want again. In the old days when you had to manually lock hubs they were the lazy guys best friend

I think anti spin is a limited slip differential (LSD). LSD works well until the clutches that transfer power to the side not spinning wear out. For daily use and light off roading it is good. For heavy off roading where it will engage often and be worked hard I'm not a fan.

The anti spin is a great package regardless. When 4 wheeling, or if you are in the snow on the road. Nothing, no 4wd system, nothing, makes the difference that good tire tread makes. I love seeing idiots with their new 4x4 trucks and a TRP on the back just completely F-ed and stuck. Then I go pull them out and laugh as I spit snow and dirt on the windshield as I bound away through the trail.

oh, and take the traction control off.

I wish they offered this option with a locker in the rear instead of the LSD. That way the Sahara and sports could have factory warrantied lockers without having to go all the way to the rubicon if you are not a hardcore off-roader but want to have it just in case. It seems that for most driving the BLD should be just fine especially if you opt for the 4wheel auto in the sahara.

I've never gotten stuck with RWD, FWD, AWD. I agree with you about tires and would go a step back to say the driver makes the biggest difference. From track driving days, we always say the first/best mod to make is to "fix the big loose nut behind the wheel". Sounds about the same for this case! Lesson from fast track driving...keep your eyes down the road, look where you want to go...anticipate. That's kept my RWD wide tires from getting me stuck plenty of times!

And yes, take traction control off...or at least toggle it when needed...and a manual helps IMO!

Hmmm. As much as I, and surely others, appreciate your time and energy put towards the forum, I have to speak up on this. I really don't believe this is either representative of what I believe the Jeep/off-road community represents or is being a good steward of off-roading in general. Better to help then educate rather than to go this route. IMO anyway.
