Holcomb is tough. The rock garden can be a bear. Its been a while but it took us a while to get through that short stretch and we were all on big tires. One person got stuck for about an hour and some random guy came by and helped us get through it. The rest of it is not a big deal. I think on 33s you may have to winch

Have You considered a Gold Mountain?

  1. Let them download the Badge of Honor app.
  2. The trail starts off with an immediate but very manageable gate keeper to get them engaged from the beginning.
  3. A couple of challenging obstacles (depending on line) perfectly spaced to keep them engaged.
  4. Take them through the boneyard

Make sure you are doing Holcomb valley and not Holcomb creek which is the harder trail. As for moderate-easy I suggest Burns Canyon-Rattlesnake canyon- old city creek if it’s open.

Did gold mountian last year.
I think it may be a little much for my little kids
But I guess I could do the gate keeper with them and use that as a tester

if you think Gold Mountain might be a “a bit much“ for your kids, I highly suggest you choose Holcomb Valley over Holcomb Creek.

Avoid Holcomb Creek, it's rated 8/10. Gold Mountain has a gatekeeper. John Bull has the same rating. I just did Holcomb last Friday at the Jeep Jamboree.

I’ll be hitting gold mountain Sunday meeting at the trail head about 7:45. I’ll have my four year old and my best friends five year old with me. Kids love wheeling with me

I would not even do Gold Mountain unless someone is with you who has run it before. There is only one spot where 33s are going to give you trouble going S to N and it could make the day less enjoyable. Or you could run from North to South, go over the top, pick through the boneyard and then backtrack out to the North.

If you have not then I'd run the 3N16 Gold Fever route, which admitted is about a 1/10 difficulty. And then skyline drive which again is easy. The overlook is worth the short hike. Then if you want more challenge perhaps Heartbreak Ridge. Or White Mountain if you wish to exit to the NW or Rattlesnake Canyon if you wish to exit to the NE (then cross into the ORV and run the sand dunes straight to the N of Cholla Road).
