The Moab Edition should Have lockers. True the Sahara has been around awhile that’s why the Rubicon is an Upgrade for off roading and is very capable “out of the box”. Not sure what you mean by a True off roader but I’ve had 2 and they have taken me anywhere I’ve Wanted to go.

That has some serious strip mall flex.

If the Moab had lockers, it'd be a Rubicon. It doesn't make sense to make another Rubicon with a different name. It also doesn't make sense to have a Moab edition Rubicon as they're two different places. I think they positioned it about perfectly, a lightly upgraded Sahara that's right at half way between it and the Rubicon. Unless they decide to make an upgrade over the Rubicon, but I'm not sure what they'd add to do that, maybe portal axles on 35's? What else can they do besides cosmetics and maybe some more armor? And is that worth making a new model or just a special edition?

Even a stock sport is a serious off-roading machine with merely the addition of some good tires. With the BLD and mud terrains, a base sport would probably out wheel a stock rubi on it's fairly tame KO2's.

Ok

Ok, I think I made my point with the videos, you can sure enjoy Moab with Wranglers other than a Rubicon, hell you can even do it in a Kia! LMAO I think the new Moab is going to be one fine kick as Jeep just like they all are.
Sure, you can enjoy Moab with a Kia or a stock Sport, no one said otherwise.

But if you were going to Moab and had your pick of any Jeep, you would most definitely pick the one with the most off-road goodies available.

That's why I found the name unfitting for the specs.

As of today, my dealership has no confirmation about a MOAB option, and claims there computer still doesn't show option 24M in the build sheet for MOAB. Has anyone confirmed with their dealership that they can actually build/order a MOAB yet?

This isn't anything new. Almost all of the JK special editions were Sahara models with some extra content. Heck the JK Moab edition was exactly the same as this! It was a Sahara with the heat reduction hood, steel bumpers, and Rubicon wheels and tires. It's only a matter of time before we get a Dragon edition JL........:giggle:
I feel like some people need a reminder that this isn't the first time that a Wrangler has been called Moab, and to look back at the original package.

Jeep Wrangler JL 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Moab Edition - Official Specs and Pricing! JP013_012WR

It's the same idea applied to the JL as was applied to the JK. It's an appearance package for the Sahara to make it look a little tougher.

We should print Moabicon decals and clear this whole thing up!

I was at a Long Island NY dealer yesterday. They were able to build it but not able to order it. Guess I’ll wait on the 19’s to order.

Ok, @JD Flick now I am really confused with your answer so, let me see if I can get this straight. In other words let's look at this a little closer.

Your contention is that the Moab special addition should be built on the Rubicon platform.

If I understand it right you say this because the Rubicon is the most capable off road vehicle that Jeep produces.

Given what I just said above if I understand you right, why would you pay extra to have a Moab built on a Rubicon platform that already has everything? I mean seriously, do you really want to pay extra money to have them leave the Rubicon decals off at the factory only to be replaced with ones that say Moab?

Please I beg you explain to me why this would make sense, i am just not getting wanting a special edition Rubicon that literally gives you nothing but different decals!
I have no such contention, nor do I want Jeep or myself to do anything. I'm simply commenting on the name...

The Rubicon Jeep is named after one of the most notoriously punishing trails, and is the most off-road-capable street-legal vehicle you can buy stock. Moab has a similar reputation in the off-road community, and has obstacles that are considered some of the toughest out there.

So when I saw the headline that there was a Moab JL, I was briefly excited that it could be something game-changing. Like, "what if they one-upped the Rubicon"! But that excitement lasted only a few seconds until the specs loaded. :)

If Jeep wants to just name different variations of the Wrangler after famous off-road spots, that's fine.

I think edition names and equipment should match. I can’t say what is needed at Moab or to do the Rubicon... I’ve never been there. But say a Wetlands edition...that should have mud tires and maybe a snorkel. An Overland JL should have more fuel capacity and ways to handle storage. One named after a ski resort should be awd and come with a ski rack. Special editions are special. They shouldn’t be built to please everyone, that’s why they’re different.

So, I continue to ask the question on this thread. For those of you that say the new Moab special edition should be built on the Rubicon platform what would you do to make it different from the Rubicon? And please, be specific and please don't tell me all you would do is change the hood decal to Moab instead of Rubicon, you can buy a Rubicon and do that yourself already.
I don't know why you're demanding forum members answer that question, and I'm sure you're going to argue with any answer, but I'll give it a try.

Here are some ideas for a new Wrangler edition that would outdo Rubicon and be the new top-dog like the JK's Hard Rock and Recon.

1. New aggressive, cool looking hood unique to this model.
2. An exclusive color, like maybe "sand".
3. A stubby variation of the steel front bumper. Or to save cost, just take the end tips off the current steel bumper and sell it that way.
5. Powder coat some of the steel parts, including the bumpers to match the body.
6. Hardcore rock sliders that bolt onto the frame.
7. Equip it from the factory with many of Mopar's new JL parts:
a) 2" Lift
b) Signature series Warn winch
c) Winch guard pipe that bolts onto the bumper (whatever that's called... I have it)
d) Cold air intake, or snorkel!
8. 35" tires, or maybe even 37s.
9. High clearance exhaust
10. A flood/spot combo lightbar on the hood.

Just some ideas. As demonstrated, Jeep has the capability to make a new edition using existing Mopar parts and some stylistic changes.

And high steel fenders! :like:

Seems steep for still having available options you can add. I guess it comes down to Rubicon or Moab, which one would you rather have off-road or as a mall crawler. I’d still take a Rubi, but this is a start for different trim options.
I love how you Rubi guys assume that anyone who owns a Sahara or anything that isn't a Rubi are mall crawlers. I can tell you that our Sahara has seen more offroading than most of the Rubis out there and we will be hitting Moab next July. Plenty of Rubis on here that are more bejeweled than muddy and that are sitting in the local mall parking lot that will never use their offroad capabilities... fo sho.

That being said I would pick a Rubi over this Moab addition for that price. Pretty pricey for a glorified Sahara, and that's coming from a Sahara owner :)

I love how you make this a Rubicon vs everything else post. Nowhere did I say that. This is a community of Jeep enthusiasts. Wheel whatever you want, can afford, or have laying around. I can tell you that while agree about a lot of rubi models being mall crawlers, there is a similar quantity if not more of other models. I can say that the majority of the people that have mall crawlers aren’t on this forum. This is my first Jeep Wrangler since my 2000 TJ that I took all over the country on trails, hills, and mountains. I hope that you like your Jeep just as I do mine and I hope your trip to the Moab is fun and full of memories but please know facts before you make this a competition of who’s been where. My post was solely saying a Rubicon is more so worth the money than a Moab edition.

Come on... read you're own words...
"I guess it comes down to Rubicon or Moab, which one would you rather have off-road or as a mall crawler."
You know in that statement you are saying if it ain't a Rubi it's a mall crawler. ALL jeeps are off road capable and MANY Jeeps never see it. I'm not making this a Rubi vs. everything else, I was simply replying to your statement and how you were saying if it isn't a Rubi it's a mall crawler.

Rubis rock, no doubt about it. If we had it to do over we'd get one because of our new found love of Jeep and our future plans but I'm not going upside down on this Sahara just for some better offroad options.
Glad you used your TJ like that and thanks for the well wishes. And I agree a Rubi is way worth the money vs. that Moab thing.

BTW... you are right, we are all enthusiasts here and that's cool. I just hate when people put down the other trim models.
That was not my intention nor did I mean to ruffle any feathers. I was implying that given the capabilities of the Moab and a Rubicon, I side with a Rubicon. Again, good luck on your off-road and on road endeavors.
