A local dealer has a 23 wrangler 4xe rubicon with 42,000 miles for below $30k. I've averaged about 17,500 miles per year since I've owned the JKUR. Don't think I'll be putting as many miles on this as my jkur and Most likely would plan to trade it in when it is approaching 100,000 miles. then again, still considering a gladiator rubicon.
Be careful, there are a lot of fleet rentals on the market.

There is supposed to be a $4,000 tax credit on the pre owned 4xe, or something like that.

I will add that one of my brothers got a 2024 Rubicon X 4xe with the SOT last year, and after a year of use he has had zero issues and loves it. It works great for him in the Washington D.C. area where he commutes from Virginia to D.C., as he can go one-way to work on pure electric, charge up for free at work, then come home. As a result, he spends very little in gas. This is the optimal scenario, of course, but his experience thus far has been great. My youngest brother and I both have 2024 JLUXRs with the 3.6 and we love them. Again, zero issues. My observations of the Forum entries have been that it really depends on what your most frequent use is. If you can take advantage of the (short) range of the 4xe battery-only operation for work purposes in particular, then I'd go for that (especially with the terrific discounts out there right now), but if you are looking long-haul and just don't want to deal with a hybrid solution, then go the 3.6 ICE route. Honestly, if you take care of it and do all the required maintenance, my experience has borne out that you'll have few issues with any choice. There are always lemons in a bunch, but at least in my case I've had few issues with any vehicle/make we've owned because we take care of our expensive purchases. My .02 cents. 👍

I think I would prefer a wrangler. It's what I've been in for 7 years and also grew up in them. I do love the look of both. Either way I go, it's getting a 2.5" lift and 37's. My only thought is every time I take the wrangler camping with the almost 2-year-old, I'm packed to the brim, no room for my wife to even get in the back seat with him if he's having a meltdown.
Is Turo rental in your available for the Gladiator? Pack it the same as you would your JK. Living with it for a few days might answer your question.

For long term ownership, I would strongly advise against buying a 1st generation PHEV with both known and unknown issues, on top of that a used one. Even if Jeep manages to iron out the existing issues on the 4xes through TSBs and whatnot, it will still be a complex drivetrain.

If you go the wrangler route, go with a non-PHEV.

Also, Gladiator (Pickup) and Wrangler (SUV) isn’t an apples to apples comparison. First figure out your use case and driving needs, then figure out the drivetrain option.

Have to get the purchase price from a dealer under $25k.

Not that I would ever recommend this, but I wonder if you got them to discount the vehicle by the same amount they would "undervalue" your trade.

I'd say the same if they were priced similarly (as an original 4xe purchaser), but he's talking about saving 30%+ ($8-14k!) . On a lightly modified rig, he could even get a maxed out warranty from Granger for a couple grand and be WAY ahead.

I bought my 2023 4xe Sahara 4 door new. It has 35,500 miles on it (approaching 2 years), and I haven't had any problems at all. Since it is the first and only Jeep Wrangler I've owned, I can't compare it to the others. I've found that it has been very reliable, and when driven in electric mode (I charge on the fast charger made by Jeep), I am getting 39+ mpg when not traveling distances longer than 100 miles. This is almost all in-town driving. When out on long trips, it averages 22-24 mpg.

Having said all of that, I've asked the questions here (but don't really understand the differences between the 12V batteries described), the getting dropped by the 12V battery is a worry/concern. I also wonder what expense is ahead when I get over 5 years and 130,000 miles. Ive kept my last two vehicles (Mitsubishi Outlanders) for 160,000 miles and 10 years. I'm getting g the impression that most don't see that happening with the 4xe?

42,000 miles is a lot on a used vehicle. But below 30K would be a good price. If it has been trouble free via a visible and accurate service record, and you can get an extended warranty for that 4xe and like it in all other ways, I would buy it.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X 4Xe
Hi Everyone,

Getting ready to purchase a new jeep. I'm going back and forth between a Gladiator Rubicon and a Wrangler 4xe Rubicon. I currently have a 2014 jkur with 233,000 miles that's on her last legs and not looking to put money into it with this many miles. Either car I purchase will be a newer low mile's vehicle. Specifically, 2022-2023. I want the truck bed, but then I've driven a 4xe and i love the power, not too worried about all electric miles (it would get used), more getting it for the power. This vehicle will be used as my daily driver, but more importantly to get in and out of the the northern utah mountains, whether that be fishing, camping, or skiing. What would y'all do? If anyone owns a 4xe long term in the years I mentioned, can you give me a short review? Would you do it again? Thanks!
I have had my 2024 Rubicon X 4Xe for 25 months and over 25,000 miles. No issues and I would absolutely 100% do it again. Other than tiny small convenient cosmetic changes the only real change was to go from 33" KO's to 35" Nitto Grapllers.

I have a '23 4xe 20th Anniversary I got new about 9 months ago, I've put 15k miles on it, my mom has had 2 4xe wranglers a '21 and '25, and we both love them. I do wheel mine a decent bit with a few small issues, she does not and has had no issues. For me I notice the trans temp HEATS up if I'm crawling up hill in 4H or giving it some juice at sub 7mph because of the wet clutch slipping, a fix for this is crawling in 4L. I also have had service 4wd and/or stability control light, this is mostly on loose beach sand or deep mud in 4HA. Again the fix for this is keeping it in 4H. I will say I would suggest regearing if your going to 37s even with the additional power. My highway mileage with 35s is about 15 if I don't have any battery though I am rather heavy with winch, skid plates, recovery gear, and some racks on the outside. My only other complaint about my 4xe is the decreased range due to the smaller gas tank, generally for road driving I get about 220-240 miles before I the light comes on, offroad obviously thats gonna be a lot worse so I would encourage to bring extra gas if your gonna be offroading for a decent distance.
However, I do love the extra power, I do generally save money on gas now because I can charge for free at work, I love driving in full electric, the ride quality is far better then gas versions. If your into high speed stuff I feel like the 4xe actually does better then old JLU, its not apples to apples however, the 4xe does not buck as much or lose either end and it feels well planted at high speeds. I have driven a Mojave and I gdt a similar feeling out of it however I did not drive the Mojave as fast as my 4xe.

I have a 2021 4Xe and I'm approaching 50,000 miles. I have had to deal with the recalls but that's about it beyond things that a more Jeep related than 4Xe specific. I did have a 2018 JL with the V6. Much happier with the 4Xe. The only thing is I have a love hate relationship with the SOT, it's so easy to open when you want at any time or place, but I think the hard top looks so much better when its off.

Novice poster and new member here, it’s a bit long, but might help some. Thought I’d share my experiences and insights gained. I purchased a new loaded 2025 JT Gladiator Rubicon back in early April and just traded down to a used, low mileage 2024 Bikini Pearl JL Wrangler Sahara 4xe. I’m much too old for rock crawling🤣 The Gladiator was a big disappointment and not what I needed for mostly beach driving in Florida, light trails and off roading in Northern VA. The JT’s steering was all over the place and the ride rough, rugged with low power from the 3.6 Pentastar engine. The Gladiator really seemed to struggle just going up even mild and moderate inclines. After a few non-productive service visits and much agonizing thought and research, I put it in the category of a very costly “lived and learned” experience. Spent the last month test driving multiple Wranglers, gas and hybrid. Gas version was better than the Gladiator, but still seemed lacking in power and rather noisy. The 4xe was the Goldilocks version of ‘just right.’ I love it! Lots of get up and go power, smooth riding, and super quiet. (My daily driver is a Lexus 350RX, so that’s saying something!)The Hybrid mode’s 27 mpg, so much better than the 15-16 mpg of the Gladiator. Electric mode is impressive and although it only has a range of 28 miles per charge, it works great for me! So FWIW, best universal advice would be: Test drive, test drive, test drive and do the research! Now off to the sugar sand beaches of St. Augustine. Happy Jeepin!

21 JLUR 4xe wuth 27k miles on it. The 95b high voltage battery required it to be replaced. That's the only repair I've had on mine. My use is about ideal for 4xe. Low electricity cost, telework 80% in office 20% and that in office day is 13 miles round trip, within battery range.

I run electric so often that my oil changes are annual less than mileage because electric miles don't count. It drives well on long road trips, better than stock with the lift. There is a learning curve to using the 4xe, how the system works overall and controlling it.

Zero regrets with mine. It's great on and off road. I wheel when I can so she's not a pvement princess at all. My biggest complaint is the 4xe gets a smaller gas tank of only 17 gallons. 4 fewer than other wranglers and that lost range hurts on 300+ mile road trips.

Any questions feel free to DM me.

Something that just occurred to me, and not to tell you how to make the decision but, pick between a truck and suv, meaning the truck most everything you pack is "outside". Things you want or need to keep inside only have half of the back seat because of your kid. You can definitely carry more with a gladiator however, its exposed to the elements or you have to get something that cost extra. Do you want one to do truck things, is your wheeling difficult enough to hinder a gladiator compared to wrangler.
If you are buying a 4xe used, I would find a lower mileage one and figure out the exact warranties that transfer, the 10yr/100k warranty is great however its newish so older 4xe's may not have them. I would suggest test driving both. Maybe look at getting a 4xe and gladiator rental for a week and seeing which you prefer.

233,000 miles, kudos to you.
What engine do you have right now? Unless there were problems (engine-wise) along the way I'd think that over-the-top history of milege would also be your answer.

I have plenty of friends with full electric and/or hybrid cars or trucks. They tend (especially the Tesla people) to turn in used or turn in used to get/buy another Tesla. The market used... buyers tend to avoid the "I'll get stuck with changing the batteries or software" on a used electric anything. So sellers take quite a hit along with dealers moving on to the next models, no interest in fixing or maintaining older tech. And that's what all these cars/Jeep are now, tech.

Same has happened with my motorcycle buddies. 1st Gen "Zero" all electric bikes use a completely different battery now that besides it's different size, the company no longer supports the older stuff. And when I say older I mean 3-4-5 years. That's not that old. The USA used to build "7 year cars". But we are all driving computers with 4 tires and a steering wheel. Why I lease and at the end of my lease I buy and keep for another 3-4 years before going on to my next Jeep (this is my 4th Jeep in a row). I'm not so sure I'll be doing that with my new '25 JL?

Have you had a good experience with your 4xe? never stranded you anywhere?
I have a 2021 4xe Rubicon and I've never been stranded. Use it as a daily driver, and, like you, bought it for the power (and the fact that I HATE the regular Rubicon red interior).

I've recently started using electric mode more for my commute, but either way, it works well.
