Hi Everyone,

Getting ready to purchase a new jeep. I'm going back and forth between a Gladiator Rubicon and a Wrangler 4xe Rubicon. I currently have a 2014 jkur with 233,000 miles that's on her last legs and not looking to put money into it with this many miles. Either car I purchase will be a newer low mile's vehicle. Specifically, 2022-2023. I want the truck bed, but then I've driven a 4xe and i love the power, not too worried about all electric miles (it would get used), more getting it for the power. This vehicle will be used as my daily driver, but more importantly to get in and out of the the northern utah mountains, whether that be fishing, camping, or skiing. What would y'all do? If anyone owns a 4xe long term in the years I mentioned, can you give me a short review? Would you do it again? Thanks!

Well I have only had mine since March but love mine. I think if you want a truck buy a truck if you want a jeep buy a wrangler. A gladiator looses so much in departure angle I don't see the point, unless you just like the look and don't need a lot of capacity.

Not sure I want to hear this, but what's the price difference between a 2.0T and a 4xe on the used market?

It's heavy, more complex/expensive to maintain long term. If the 392 wasn't an option, I'd probably lean 2.0T over 4xe.

~70k on ours since new, been all over the country wheeling.

I think I would prefer a wrangler. It's what I've been in for 7 years and also grew up in them. I do love the look of both. Either way I go, it's getting a 2.5" lift and 37's. My only thought is every time I take the wrangler camping with the almost 2-year-old, I'm packed to the brim, no room for my wife to even get in the back seat with him if he's having a meltdown.

Have you had a good experience with your 4xe? never stranded you anywhere?

Stranded once, in Kentucky on the way back from your neck of the woods a few years back. We had a 12V battery go bad to the point it locked out the HV system and bricked the Jeep. I was able to reset it with a higher end Autel scanner, but got snubbed by the local dealers.

Other than that no other issues other than some trans fluid seepage. It's been beat pretty hard and towed an offroad camper about 15k during that time.

Not sure you would want to high mileage a 4xe, fixing a 4xe high voltage system outside of the warranty can be very expensive. Based on your 2014 JK, you would blow through the 4xe warranty in less than 5 years.

Warranty on the high voltage system is.
2021 have 10 years 100,000 miles
2022+ have 8 years 100,000 miles

It might get expensive when the warranty runs out early.

This is what scares me. I've never gotten stranded in my JKUR offroad. It's been stuck in snow and couldn't retrieve till snow melted a few days later, but it's never bricked or just died offroad. A regular ODB scanner wouldn't be able to reset it then I imagine? Would you buy again if you had option to? Or would you have gotten something else (not including 392, not in my realm, I could never spend 100 grand and take it into the woods)?

Go find a regular 2.0 and see if you still like the power and just stick with it. So far it seems to be the most trouble free of the drivetrains.

A local dealer has a 23 wrangler 4xe rubicon with 42,000 miles for below $30k. I've averaged about 17,500 miles per year since I've owned the JKUR. Don't think I'll be putting as many miles on this as my jkur and Most likely would plan to trade it in when it is approaching 100,000 miles. then again, still considering a gladiator rubicon.

The most expensive one (~$300) at Autozone (my second Uber round trip after getting the replacement battery) could not. Jscan may be able to, but I haven't been able to confirm.

This isn't really a common occurrence, so I wouldn't let that one off scare you away.

We're considering a 392 as a replacement, especially with the disappearance of the $7500 tax credit, I'd likely go 2.0T otherwise.

23 wrangler unlimited rubicon with 40,000 miles are probably in that 37-43k range from everything I see. same goes for Gladiator Rubicon. 4xe rubicon i'm looking at is 42k miles 2023 and its listed at 29k.

I'd do the 4xe again for that savings all day.
