How’s it going guys.
Have a 2018 JL with 50,000 miles. Recently did full tuneup. Changed every belt and all the oils. Truck is sounding like a diesel. Mechanic is saying that’s normal but I never made this noice before.

I suggest that you get another opinion. If you do have the Rocker arm tick, the quicker that you get it repaired, the less money that it will cost you.

Holy crap! At 50K miles, why did you need all that work done? The noise/audio of your recording doesn't sound right to me. Take it back to them. Make them tell you why that's normal if it didn't before.

If it is the 3.6 Penstar engine it is probably the rockers. Have a 2019 JLUR that I had to change engine at 115K miles. ($11,238) My recommendation it to get an extended warranty in place as soon as you can. This is a known problem with that engine.

It's a Chrysler engine. Chewed up cams aren't a bug, they're a feature. At any mileage.

The engine sounds fine. It's easy to confuse noisy injectors (which are also common on the Pentastar, but harmless) with engine tick.

I replaced all the cams, rocker arms, and lifters on mine a couple years ago and mine sounds exactly the same. Some are noisy, some are quiet.

2018 JLU owner with 51,000 miles as well and had the same noise in February of this year. 2 weeks later new cylinder heads were installed. If you don't have a warranty, I strongly suggest one immediately.

It doesn't sound right to me. mine sounded like that when I used 0W-20 oil. I switched to 5W-30 a long while back and it purrs like a kitten now. Try thicker oil first, if that doesn't quiet it down a little, then it might be something more. Rocker/cam, or noisy injectors. Also, cut off a few feet of an old garden hose. Put one end up to your ear, and move the other around the running engine, until you pinpoint the problem.
