Hey Brian!I'm new here so forgive me if this is common sense, but Why is there a gap on the sides? Why wouldn't these be made 2 inches wider to cover this? Is there a reason for this? I'm in the market for a sun shade and trying to figure all this out. Thanks.
Solid question. There are a few reasons for this.
1. Having a slight gap gives you enough room to fit your hands to latch your hard top / soft top + freedom panels while keeping your sunshade installed.
2. The bungees need a little bit of distance to remain taught and prevent sagging and flapping at highway speeds
Ultimately, the gap isn't that large. Here's a nice aerial shot showing the gap.
