I was sitting in my parked JL. Windows (rolled down and) removed, top folded back completely. I'm backed into a parking spot - just sitting there after a rather lousy start to the day. I hear a family walking behind me in the lot, talking about the Jeep. I don't remember the first bit, but I do hear the dad say something along the lines of: "That's nice, but I'd never leave the top off with ..." The wife or one of the kids cuts him off, pointing out, "There's someone in it!"
I tried to only stare straight ahead, and not burst into laughter. I wasn't mad or offended. As they loaded up their minivan or SUV a few (empty) spots away to my left, I primarily spent my time wondering if the thing he was going to say was invalid since the Jeep was occupied, or if he/they felt slightly embarrassed being "caught talking smack" about someone else's vehicle.

I may have been inclined to say/think something similar before I had my Wrangler, and I can think of a few valid ways to finish his sentence. So, no hard feelings. random baseball dad. ;)

I once knew someone who would flick lit cigarettes into parked convertibles as he drove by, usually aiming for a seat. Total a$$hat.
The bed of my truck was occasionally used as a trash receptacle. I tried to not let it bother me. That was made easier by my never having caught anyone in the act. ;)

I usually leave it Sarfari style with the roof mostly to keep the direct sun off and to minimize the chance of having to clean bird shit off the seats.

Having SOT tops we will leave then open if we are going in to a store briefly and we can see the vehicle from inside. Although I always put the windows up. Other than that the SOT top is just 20 seconds from open to shut, so there is rarely a good reason to leave it open.

I do consider the likelihood of bird poop and depending on the time of year in Florida leaving your top open can invite loads of crap from oak and other trees. However my main concern is always a$$hats who have nothing better to do but vandalize or steal others property.

Don't think he was necessarily talking smack, but maybe gonna say.. "with weather like this", "with sketchy thieves or shady kids in the neighborhood", "with Tweety and his friends perched on the lamppost up there".

We had severe weather alerts today, so it easily could've been anything like that. Probably just a simple observation trying to impart some basic cautionary advice to his kids.

Yeah. I was also thinking, "with seats like those" or "all this pollen."

I guess it was more about the driver's decision than the vehicle. Also, I couldn't think of another way to phrase it, and "talking smack" is fun to say and read 😄
