I recently put a set of RS5000’s on my F350, they work well. Are they the best shock, no; but @ $300 for a set they’re a great value. No experience running them on a Jeep.

$1,400 for 2 Fox shocks?? That's just crazy talk.
$2,000 for 4 teraflex 3.3?? Not much better.

I can understand using these, if you are Desert Running, but just slow moving it in a Jeep??

.
1. The adjustabilities on the higher end shocks are nice and can be used on or off road, including slow crawling situation.
2. Those remote reservoir shocks offers longer travel and resist shock fade better.

Not everyone wants or needs to spend that kind of money, but I would not call it crazy talk depends on who you are talking to.

I had the same experience with Bilstein 5100 shocks that has been mentioned here. They do not offer a good ride. The word in other places where I read is that with 5100 shocks, if you drive over a quarter, you can tell if it is heads or tails. :)

When I removed the Bilsteins, I replaced them with Rancho 5000 shocks. They were much better.

Hello JL group!

I have a 2018 JLU Sport S. Stock height and only thing aftermarket are the Westin running boards. I run Wildpeak AT3W passenger tires at 31 psi so overall it’s fairly light. I’m looking for more of a daily driver shock and go off-road every other weekend.

I made the mistake of purchasing Bilstein 5100’s for my Jeep. They ride very firm and have a harsh/jarring feel on larger bumps on the asphalt. Off-road they are even worse.

I’m debating between buying the Rancho RS5000x because the valving is progressive and should offer a smoother ride at slower speed.
I’m also interested in the fox 2.0 performance, I believe the valving is more linear. I worry that my Jeep being on the light side will still ride firm on asphalt as a daily driver with the Fox’s.
Any advice is appreciated! Hopefully this post will help someone else out in the future. I’ll be buying from Extreme Terrain.

Consider Teraflex Falcon SP2 3.3 Fast Adjust Piggyback Shocks, but very expensive but I'm happy with mine. Before spending money on shocks, make sure you're not going to lift, because you'll need to buy another set of shocks. Been there, done that LOL $$$

I would go with Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks. I have them on my '18 JLU and the ride is nice.
WOW, Rancho RS9000 Adjustables.

As you know I am an Old Jeeper so here is a war story.

My Currie Anti Rock, BROKE and it broke because it was the fist one and I bought it form Currie himsel at the Off Road Expo in Pomona Ca. I told I thougt it would break and I pointed out where. He said NO FRIGGIN WAY I designed it and won't break.

Well it did on my first run in Moab, ok as long as I running trails it work with it. BUT I have a 10 hr trip home to Scottsdale Az.

6 days later time to go home. I load up and hit the highway. HOLY SHIT and I cannot drive them faster than about 3X mph, take two days to get home. The past 2 0 some odd miles have been WHITE KNUCKLE, been in conoe more stable.

BUT I am a hard core Rancho RS 9000 Adj. I turn those front RANCHO'S up the # 9 setting, and put the rear on 7.

Made it home in under 8 hrs!

GO RANCHO you damn right!

But it ain't boutique stuff with fancy names, its JUST WORKS!!!!

I think this was the Currie protype, the only ones he had at the show were a set that fit my Jeep and like I said and told him in a letter it BROKE, can you send me a new set of Arms?

Currie = HELL NO!

You can let these guys know what you are doing and the ride you want. They just sell shocks by what they are used for and will tell you regardless of price?

Check out their videos for some comparisons and reviews.

Shock Surplus recommended the Bilstein’s 5100’s and that’s how I got to this problem. I’ve reached out to them and they are no help. I don’t recommend using Shock Surplus and by the way they have a Better Business Bureau rating of an F! Unfortunately I didn’t figure this out till after purchasing from them and receiving horrible customer service.

It seems that the 5100s are the defacto choice due to reputation. They have their place, usually with heavier pickups. They would be a good choice with a winch or for an overland Jeep that's loaded heavy.

Shock Surplus looks like a middle man operation with little or no warehousing. They likely send and order directly to the manufacturer, who then ships it to you.

Do a little research and self-education on high speed vs low speed damping in shocks, look into which companies use what technology in their shocks to find something suitable for the ride comfort you desire and don't cheap out when it comes time to purchase.

If you're looking for a good all-round throw and go set, the Fox 2.0's are pretty good. They're also fairly affordable.
