What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

Dan - I've enjoyed your posts and inputs since several months back... and a large reason why I am enjoying my (red) Sahara today So thanks for your insights.

On the topic of the 3.6 manual, which I have - I was going to post a thread on thoughts/impressions of it, but since I just saw your post, I'll just jump on it now. I love the manual and the 3.6 - it is indeed fun, and there is no need for me to upgrade the shifter, or anything like that. But having a 700hp Mustang 5.0 for the last 7 years as my other toy, driving it on the highway, I never had to take it out of 6th gear. With my new Sahara, I was shocked that I have to constantly downshift to 4th to really get a good whomp on passing. It renders the cruise control I set, kindda useless, because I have to re-engage.

Your thoughts? Is this normal? I might have to put a Magnuson blower on this baby before long... just like my 5.0. :D

Yeah, it is normal. They just made it super tall. I think 5th gear is as tall as the JK was in 6th. I think we can thank CAFE for that. With a tail wind going down hill in 6th, this sucker can compete with a Civic! Lol! Well, maybe not.

In the flat country here in Indiana, it works ok above 60mph with the 315 KO2s. I always drop 5th to accelerate, though.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad I haven't been spoiled by that Mustang. Instead, I drive my 3.8 JK, which makes the JL feel like a powerhouse. You need to pick up an 07-10 JK to help you with this! Lol!

I plugged in my old dashboard-top Garmin GPS since the 7” screen is garbage. The only time CarPlay recognizes my iPhone is when I don’t absolutely need a NAV system. Very poor offering by FCA.

I don't have this problem. I would treat it as a warranty issue.

Took the hardtop off which made the Katzkin seats look amazing with the Ocean Blue IMHO.

I think that Ocean Blue is a color that looks best in Sahara trim with tan seats - you nailed it!

Waiting for my 5th rim to get off of back order. Then will add on my Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Only 33s for the Sahara with no lift. Added a mopar grille that I painted matte black. And a black hood decal and stubby antenna. Not a lot, but makes it look even better. Also painted the ugly silver inserts on the bumper.

Looks really cool!

I did my 2nd oil change at about 5250 miles yesterday. The first had been done at 2007 miles. I'll be running this oil until mid October, then will do a pre-Moab trip change. I'm guessing there will be about 5k on the oil at that point. After that, I'll go strictly by the oil life monitor.

I just love the 3.6 and manual transmission. They are well matched and a joy to drive.

Question @DanW: How low do you let the oil life monitor get before changing the oil? I assume you don't go down to 0%.

I would also say get that looked at. The newer UConnect in these has been angelic, it just works, have had 0 issues.

Been a busy morning. Mowed the yard and just finished washing the Jeep. Right now I’m sitting in the porch swing, drinking a cold beer, and waiting for the FedEx truck to drop off the TopLift Pro. Then, I’ll assemble that, take the top off of the Jeep, install the JTops Shade, and go for a ride. The cold beer and the eventual ride means this is still my day off, right?

Edit: Truck showed up right after posting. Time for assembly.

Went to dealership service department this AM and they did the U62 recall, PCM Flash update to my 2dr. JL. Tech had the JL, no more then 15 min..

Geeez, to me taking my vehicle to a friggin dealership service dept., gives me more angst / is worse then my going to the dentist for dental work.

Only 15 minutes for the U62 recall? The service dept. told me could take 2 hours but I knew that was an overshot. Good to know I won't have to spend my entire morning there

Less then 15 min. once the Tech had it in the bay. He told me, sorry it took a few minutes more but other Tech's were interrupting him as he was getting the computer attached .... other techs were "oggling" the 2dr. he said.... getting in his way.

Thank you! Adding a 2in lift and changed to 35” ridge grapples. Lift next Thursday and tires the week after. Plus the steel mopar bumper and a pretender tube. Can’t wait!

And what´s the difference between the Mopar grill than the original grill? What if you had painted the original?

I got my hands on some LED headlights on this board! I'm no mechanic but the install was simple - took about 40 mins all in. Looks a little silly with the orange markers but 2/3 (headlights and fogs) are OEM LED now.

They work fine but I can't turn on the halo. Do you think I will need a DRL module to make the halo work? Folks with LED - do your halos light up when the lights are on - like at night?
