I have had a set of Toyo open country M/T on my JL for less than 2 years which have maybe 8,000 miles on them and they are already cracking. Anyone else have these issues. It’s just the 4 that’s been on the ground the spare still looks new. I’ve attached pictures and date codes. I’d say it’s sun damage but how can the spare still look perfect when it’s had the same amount of sun exposure if not more. I run these are 33psi and have rotated them twice within the 8,000 miles.

These look terrible, better send them to me for testing ?

In all seriousness, looks pretty normal and superficial to me. Here’s a pic of my Nittos on my daily driver F150 with similar. (Wife has the Jeep at the moment) These have ~35k miles over 12 months.

I had the same issue with my Toyo’s that where on my Ram truck at 3 years. I think its a issue with most tires. I have a jeep now with Pats on them and right now after 2 years they are fine no cracks yet.

That is what my tires used to look like after a few years in the Phoenix sun when I parked outside every day. I'd say it's not immediately problematic but something aged poorly in your tires.

I have Toyo open country AT3, also just about 2 years old, with close to 6k miles on them, I also run them at 33 psi, zero cracking on either spare or the 4 on the ground. When Im not using my JLU, it is in the garage.

Based on the date code, the tires were manufactured in approximately April 2021 and October 2021. Age wise, the rubber is generally good for about 5 years. I assume the weather and sun have contributed to the cracking.

Maybe go to a Toyo dealer and show them the tires.

Construction management. I spend a lot of time driving from job to job. I had a few 60k+ years before the pandemic, I’m quite happy with “only” 35k now ?

I’ve contacted the tire shop I got them at and Toyo. The shop has to inspect them then open up a claim. Then Toyo will either allow a credit towards a new set or I’ll have to purchase a new set then send the defective ones back to them and they will then refund me for the amount of tread not used. Sounds like a headache honestly. I’ve ran nittos on every other Jeep I’ve had and never had an issue. But they weren’t in stock when I got this setup so I went with Toyo thinking it was another good brand.

They're just stress marks. If you had cracking in the side wall I'd be concerned.

I find it interesting that the sidewalls don’t appear to show similar signs of cracking or pitting. The sidewalls receive much more exposure to direct sunlight than do the tread surfaces. Your unused spare would be the exception, yet it seems okay. The occurrence of pitting cavities is bothersome as well. I don’t know what these combined symptoms indicate unless it’s a defective batch of tires or related to the surfaces you drive on. Do you spend much time on the coast driving in salty sand?

It's funny I saw this thread today as I myself just noticed similar superficial cracking just like yours on my toyo AT3's. They are about 3 years old with 40k on them. I'lll keep an eye on them I guess...

I live in AZ, bought a used JLRU from someone is Sedona, They put some 35s Toyo tires which looked almost new but I noticed severe cracking between the tread which i was ok with because there was lots of tread. No other tires I've owned have had cracking issues and I've been through them all.
After buying the Jeep I also experienced a choppy drive, it turned out to be the inner tread blocks were wearing unevenly front to back (like a slope not a cup). Which I know is related to alignment but that was the last straw. I gave the Toyos away and bought some BFG KOs but I also like the Mickey Thompsons.
