I agree with OP. my 2dr has the alpine and it sounds like crap compared to my 2010 bmw 335i with harman kardon. past like 28 volume the jeep makes weird noises rattling noises and ive never messed with the EQ

I put these in my 23. I really didn’t listen to the standard Alpine for long. Maybe one song on XM and then put these Terra Acoustics in. It’s a noticeable improvement. However, it’s not nearly as wow as the $2,000 setup I had in the 21. But the Terra Acoustics with the Alpine is clean and how it should have came from the factory.
I have these also, WORLD of difference!! Should have came from factory this way.

I'm 60 with hearing loss & long time hearing aid user. With my hearing aids I hear as well as everyone else. In 2021 I got the new JL & also got wife a 2021 GC both with Alpine. Her's sounded amazing I was disappointed with mine. Since these were our first Jeep vehicles I suppose I needed a reminder on the acoustical challenges the JL has vs the GC. I still wasn't satisfied so I went to a high end auto sound shop. They suggested changing out my 7" OE head unit for the Stinger 10" with the EQ. Wasn't a hard sell as I regretted the 7" as the wife had the 8.4" in the GC. I spent quite a while driving with the EQ queued up and making adjustments to my liking. It made a colossal difference & I feel like mine sounds better than hers now. I don't even remember if my OE 7" had an EQ as I didn't have it long before switching it out. Regardless don't underestimate an Eq for tailoring sound to your liking. Stinger 10" head unit below stock photo.

I crossed shop a Defender 90 with the Wrangler and of course the Bronco.
....
The Jeep brand and even the Wrangler is getting into the premium territory. Most likely getting cross shopped with other high end brands.
No! You don't have my permission to do that! You have to do what I say! ?

I also cross-shopped my 2-door Rubicon with the Defender 90 P400 and the various Bronco trims. People here legit told me the Wrangler has no competitors on the market and that nobody cross-shops Land Rovers with Jeeps, even though they were the same price only a year ago ?

Just an update, but was messing with the EQ today, trying some of the more 'extreme' settings that a few others were using here (vs my prior -2 low, -1 mid, 0 high settings) and I can definitely see how others would be impressed with the system. Iirc, at +5, +1, +6 the system really baps and has a fuller sound up front. This really makes the sub sound a lot better and the fronts really didn't need any decrease in low EQ. Unfortunately, this is causing the sub to overwhelm the rest of the speakers even more than it already was, and at low listening volumes, the bass makes it difficult to hear anything else. I'd fade to the front to lower the sub, but this also decreases the volume for the overhead soundbar. Still might do that.

I'm probably going to end up replacing the fronts with a set of Terracoustic or something with dedicated tweeters/crossovers, since the clarity still isn't there. Just got a full-length Weathertech cargo mat, so I'm going to try it without cutting out the oval sub hole, or cutting it out partially and see if that helps lower the sub volume just a tad (still love my bass, but not if I can't properly hear the rest of the music).

I agree the sub can overwhelm, and with no way to specifically control it you have to work around it. I run Bass -2, mid -4, treb +4. I know the mids are low but I guess I don't like it too bright, over 0 the mids just sound thin and tinny. I'm usually at volume 20-25. I love it, suits me just fine, I too am over messing with stereos. I honestly think too many people nowadays just aren't feeding it good source material. XM is utter crap sound quality wise, and you should be using phone to usb-c cable, not BT. All my music is downloaded to phone at AAC 256, I've fiddled with higher and lossless but in a jeep you can't tell the difference, I stream at home in lossless because why not!

So my new Sahara came with the upgraded Alpine system and...it kinda' sucks. Has that tin can sound the many generic factory systems are known for. If this is a upgrade then I have to imagine the stock system is some Campbell soup cans with yarn connecting them?

I am not a audio guy at all and not into major upgrades but this system is lousy. What are your experiences and what upgrades have you made that were not extreme?

Alpine sounds fine in my 23 JL. The one disappointed for me is where the base is on a 2 door. I used that floor space for tool storage in my 2019 JL trade in.

Is your '23 also a 2-door? I'm honestly kinda wondering if whatever factory tuning either Jeep or Alpine did (if any) to match the acoustics of the vehicle might have been tailored only for the larger 4-door w/larger sub and then they used that profile for both vehicles.

2022 JLUR XR w/SOT Top, spend 98% of my driving time with the windows down and the top open. I've always been very pleased with the sound coming from the Jeep. I have made EQ adjustments to work with my genre of music (80's) and listening tastes. See no need to modify.

Mine sounds great but you are correct it does lack highs and you need to crank it up almost to max to get it. I'm not a huge blast it guy nor is my Son so we will probably swap out the bar speakers at some point.

Yes, both are 2 door soft tops. The system doesn't sound like my friend's Audi, but the 23 definitely has a better sound than the 19 had.

Like others, I played with the equalizer until I found the mix that works for me.

The back is reserved for my 2 boxers, and I removed the back seats.

Yes this, I don't think many people even know what or how to use the EQ anymore! Sure its limited but it does make a difference

I can't seem too get the mix I want. The bass is really boomy. Great if you only listen to R&B /rap. I'm disappointed. I think it should have been a lot better for the money.
