So my factory 7inch head unit on 2018 JLU sport bit the dust after 3 years and only 15k miles. I have an aftermarket system installed with focal speakers and JL Audio amp. Any suggestions for an upgraded head unit? Not too excited about going back to stock since it limited the aftermarket sound system's performance.

Ideally would like something that retains as much of the factory control as possible and not be slow/buggy or otherwise feel cheap. Thanks in advance!

Can you explain what "toast" means? Did it stop working altogether, or it has screen damage that is not repairable? Asking so that we are all aware of ways the head unit can fail in future.

Your options are limited as there aren't many that are made to fit the JL

Stinger Heigh10
Alpine Restyle i407 and i509

Thanks for the recs. I was looking at the stinger, but read that it’s a little buggy. Is the Alpine restyle any better?

stock unit won’t power on, black screen, no music playing and no other signs of life. Dealer thinks it’s due to the sound system install. Something went wrong somewhere.

There are dash kits to fit a double din, afaik. There isn't much room back there though.

The stock 7" doesn't really do much of anything special with the car so I don't think it matters much what you replace it with, no?

I've never heard anything negative about the alpine units, but I assume after dropping that much money on a radio you're going to be happy with it whether you like it or not lol. :D

Yeah it’s super pricey. Is it worth it? As far as audio quality improvement?
I haven’t heard the new one, but I am sure it sounds better than OEM.

I don't own those so I'm not sure about experience. There are several posts in the forum on stinger heigh10 but unlikely to find any on the Alpine due to their prohibitive prices

You are better off getting a replacement head unit the same as stock and try your luck with that before spending a ton on Alpine.

You should also find out what is wrong about your current setup that broke the stock unit.. Without getting to the bottom of that, you are risking drowning $1500+ on another unit

Pretty cheap to replace the OEM 7inch. Just an option. I am happy with the OEM 8.4 but they are way over priced in my opinion to purchase.

Surely will get that figured out first, before installing the new one. Not l sure i want to spend the $1200 for the stock unit though.

The dealer quoted me $1200. I would go through third party but need to have the warranty on it.
