Is the stock head unit underpowered?

Good evening. I have a 2018 Wrangler Unlimited Sport S. I'm running the stock head unit with 7" screen, non-amplified. I wanted to add an amp to the stock head unit to give it a little more beef. A big company (who I like) does not recommend this as they say it'll blow the speakers. Well, the speakers sound like crap anyway so what's the difference? I'd rather give them a little more juice and have things sound better at a lower volume. I was going to add an aftermarket amplifier with 50 watts RMS x 4 to do this. What's your take on this?

There are quite a few factors when it comes to how speakers are blown. Overpowering the speaker will blow it if you are not respectful of the new power. Typically, distortion is what blows a speaker. Using more power will usually give you the ability to get a higher volume while controlling the speaker better. I would stop by your local specialty stereo shop and see what they have to offer.

I had a 19 and dropped in the alpine plug and play unit. Which was a 10” sub and an amp and that improved the sound and volume on the stock speakers with stock HU significantly

I’ve talked to my local guy and he said that adding some beef to the stock speakers isn’t going to blow them. This has been a process but we’re getting there.
