I personally think it's best to run the lowest level of ethanol possible (unless you're specifically running an E85-tuned vehicle), but you could try the cheaper E15 (Unleaded 88) since that's approved, if you have it in your region.

Right now it's only 30¢ cheaper per gallon versus Regular 87, but over the summer it was almost $1/gallon cheaper. It'll likely get you much worse fuel economy, so unless it's a big difference in savings it's probably still best to stay with 87 and keep a light foot.

So we had flex fuel vehicles for work. E85 sucks sure it's cheap but you get crap for mileage so have to fuel twice as often.

I decided to try a tank of E85 in my 2022 JL HA yesterday and discovered immediate results. Within 5 miles discovered the power loss, shifting issues, and now the CEL is on and start/stop is unavailable. My shift points are all over the place, and it doesn't want to shift out of 6th gear at highway speeds. Fuel economy is down almost 25%. Has anyone had these issues before and if so what's the correction method? Dealer said they'll run codes but are a month away from service appointments. Will this correct itself after using the fuel and running back on 87 or 89? TIA

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. If I were you I would honestly siphon the tank if possible. If not I’d drive it until maybe half a tank in one go and dilute it with regular gas. Not good for the engine/fuel system overall to run E85 since it’s not designed for it but for a one off thing it’ll be fine. Lesson learned!

I usually use it on my door hinges to combat the bubbling issue I read about.

DON’T drive it another mile…pump the tank and add back non ethanol fuel. If a trip to the dealer is required your warranty will be toast. Good luck with your outcome…hopefully the CEL will clear on its own though the error code will be stored for a while and therefore discoverable by a dealer. Others probably know more than I about how long error codes are retained.
