Hi all,

I had an H3 Hummer but slid off my icy dirt road in February. They couldn’t get a quarter panel to fix it so unfortunately insurance ended up totaling the car. I loved my hummer- the profile, riding up higher and the ability to get through snow. I had it 15 years. So anyway, I need to get a new car and like how the wrangler has a similar profile. I test drove one and liked it. I’m thinking of the 4dr sport? I don’t go off reading but I do live on dirt roads and live in Michigan. What are people’s opinions? I’ve been trying to do a lot of research online and talked to a few people who have Wranglers.

Hi,

Also from MI and live off a dirt road as well, my wife has had 2 JK's (2013/2015) and we still have the 2015, and I just got a 22 JLUR.

They are good for our diversity of weather, only suggestions is mud flaps and either wide steps or rock sliders to keep the color of your Jeep somewhat visible in the rainy and wet weather, also minimizethe rock chips.

The new JL weathertech mud flaps look nice and help.

Good luck with the decision and finding one or the ordering process.

Regards,
Jim

You cant go wrong with a Wrangler! The only complaint and thing I would consider is they aren't the best (or worst really) on gas. I wouldn't recommend getting one with a really high lift or large tires (Unless you decide to offroad alot) as this will be detrimental to the overall MPG/general life expectancy of the vehicle (unless done right). As far as it being a good daily driver and vehicle purchase I will just add the below.
-Able to handle most terrains out the box
-A massive community following ( your Jeep will most likely make some new Jeep friends lol)
-Very little market depreciation, great resale value
-THE BENEFITS FAR OUT WEIGH THE NEGATIVES
* Please dont get a Bronco lol. Its just not the same.

Welcome to the forum!

I recommend test driving as many as you can to see if a Wrangler is right for you.

This is a Wrangler forum so probably biased for the Wrangler. I have had a few Wranglers. I highly recommend one. The current JL-Series is by far the best one yet. There are a lot of different possible engine, suspension, gear options, tire options. A base Sport model will can have different combinations. All will drive slightly different. Try finding a exact model that you are interested in to test drive. That way it will be a apples-to-apples comparison.

This current automobile market is unlike anything we have ever seen. As you have probably noticed new vehicles are priced at a all time high due to inventory shortages. All brands. A bonus or benefit of a Wrangler if you can wait maybe 2 months. You can actually ORDER and buy a brand new Wrangler from one of several dealers who will actually discount 4%-5% under invoice. That is a HUGE savings You will probably need to wait about 2 months after ordering to get the vehicle though. Something to consider.

Yes, a Wrangler Unlimited would be a great choice. You'll just want some good tires, maybe BFG AT/KO2 or equivalent. If you opt for the full-time 4WD, that would probably be a nice upgrade for your situation, but it certainly isn't a deal-breaker. Now, stop reading these posts and go buy one!

If you want ac, tinted windows, power windows and locks look at the Sport S
My wife has almost 30K miles on her '18 Sport S. She got it in May of '18, and she loves it! We ordered hers with the Tech package and dual top group, so it has the nicer climate controls, 7" radio, power windows/locks/etc., and the upgraded soft top which we leave on most of the year. In 30K miles we've only had to replace the main and ESS batteries and do regular maintenance (oil changes and diff service). It's been problem-free otherwise.

She also tends to keep vehicles a long time - her last was an '03 Jeep Liberty that she bought new in '02 right after we got married. She drove it 16 years until mechanical issues cropped up and she got the Wrangler. The Liberty is still around though; my son and I fixed it's issues and we gave it to him when he turned 17.

Good luck with your decision, but I'd recommend driving a Sport S for sure!

We do this type of discount for forum members at our dealer. Check out our thread for a transparent set of information on this. Check the last page as we have done our best to update the community with our process sheets, as changes have been made. We are also new to the JLwranglerforum community ourselves.

I always liked the way the H3 looked. Kinda like an XJ Cherokee with big flares on it. You may have really liked the H3, but you wont miss that wheazing inline 5 and four speed automatic one bit. Once you drive the Wrangler with either a V6 or a 2.0 turbo four cylinder, both with an 8 speed auto, you won’t believe the difference. Plus the visibility is a lot better..

The good thing about a Wrangler is that there will always be parts for them. Look back at the previous generations, all the way to the original CJs and you will find all the parts needed to repair or rebuild.

Sticker is $110,000 or so. Finding one is impossible. Flippers are doubling their money on them. All for a electric fancy Avalanche.

Welcome to the forum, Connie.

In no particular order:

-Test drive several Wranglers, with varying engines and transmissions, to get a bead on what you might like or not like.

-Study the online configurator to determine the best combination of your desired options and price. Note that Wrangler pricing will go north very quickly, depending on the trim level and individual options that you choose.

-Every configuration (two door vs. four door; hard top vs. soft top; etc.) will have its defenders and detractors. What matters is what you prefer to have in a vehicle. That's the correct answer. :)

As you narrow your choices, search this forum for relevant threads on engine types, etc. Feel free to ask questions, too. There's lots of intel to review as you get closer to buying the vehicle. Best of luck with your purchase decision.
