Hi guys!

I've been in love with Jeeps for quite some time now. The day I found out that Jeep was remaking the Wrangler, I knew I had to get one. Counted down the days until Jeep released their photos of the JL, then continued to obsess over them.
Three weeks ago, I finally found the courage to walk into the Jeep dealership, immediately spotted the new JLs & just couldn't believe how beautiful they were in person. Obviously, I had to test drive one. As I said, I stalked the JLs for awhile, so I knew exactly what I wanted in my (future) Jeep. They happened to have that Jeep on the lot.

I picked out an automatic White Sport S which included:

Quick Order Package 24S Sport S ($3,200)
Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic ($2,000)
Black 3-Piece Hard Top ($1,095)
Technology Group ($995)
Safety Group ($895)
Cold Weather Group ($895)
Convenience Group ($395)
Tires: 245/75R17 All Terrain ($0)

MSRP - $42,310

I had mentioned that I wanted to lease and would possibly want to buy the Wrangler out in the end, so the dealer said we can do 10k for 36 mo. I currently have a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L which I absolutely LOVE, but its almost at 100k miles;
I owe $11,171 for my Accord and they offered me $10,000, the dealer tells me he's going to see if he can get more for my trade but it depends on what his managers say... I also have a credit score of 715

MSRP - $42,310
Residual - 77%
Trade - $10,000
Negative Equity - $1,171
Down Payment = $2,000

I'm very stubborn and I tell him I want to make $350 a month payments (not 100% sure if that's doable, but it's worth a try..) Where we stand now is $399 a month..

What do you guys think??

Sorry can't help you with the Lease numbers, but you may want to do some research on the Accord Coupe. They stopped making the Coupe for 2018 so they are starting to get a cult following, especially the 6 speed manuals. You might be able to sell it for more, since you are upside down on their trade value.

Don't be in a rush. There will be plenty of Wranglers available when you are ready to lease.

Only parts we don’t have to give a real analysis are money factor and sales tax. Based off the numbers you gave my quick math says $350 is possible, that said... don’t pay MSRP. Be patient and find a good deal, but look around on the forums and even off the lot people are getting less than MSRP.

I think $350 is definitely doable, even with you being upside-down on your current loan. If you aren't dead set on specific colors/options and are willing to travel, I would email a few dealer's with your numbers now and have to believe at least one will bite.

I have never leased. Do people usually pay MSRP when leasing?

I would shop around. I bought a very well options Sahara for less than that MSRP price for the sport you are looking at. Try Station Jeep in Mansfield, MA. They were doing 5% below invoice.

You should negotiate the price on the Jeep the same whether you are leasing or purchasing. It is just a financing method. The best way to get a lower lease payment is to have a low selling price.

Good rule of thumb for anyone is to not talk about how you plan to buy (or lease) until you have come to a price that you believe is fair. When they ask, and they always do, I just tell them that I am not sure, but we can figure it out if I decide to move forward. Really any car purchase should always be two to three completely independent steps.

  1. Negotiating a deal on the vehicle that you want to get.
  2. (optional) Negotiating the value of a trade.
    • I wouldn't even mention a trade until you have the price on the new car. This way you can avoid a dealer that will be acceptable to a good deal on the new car only to try and screw you on the trade.
  3. How you plan to pay.

Echoing what everyone is saying:
1. MSRP ... shoot for 5-10% below MSRP. My dealer advertises 10% off.
2. Don’t put money down ... defeats the purpose of. Lease
3. Lease #s may have changed for May. You need to check that
4. You should be sub $300 and closer to $200 then $300/mo.

One other comment: negotiate via email on the price w other dealers. This isn’t day#1 of Jeep availability. Prices are down and dealers are definitely dealing.

You think even without putting $2000 down I’d be around $200-300/mo ???

I’ve been talking with another dealership via email and there’s a pretty well loaded Sahara that’s MSRP is $45,315 but the woman told me the “perfect price” is $38,969. With that being said, can I hold her to that price for a lease?
