3.6 engine noise

I seem to be getting a slight knocking sound at idle. It gets a little worse if I'm stoped and in gear. Anyone else have this?

For some reason I noticed this the other day. Its close to sounding like a diesel when standing outside listening.... but not quite as loud. I didn't notice it in the cabin.

So I checked with dealer and they were not concerned. They said the 3.6l is just a noisy engine and were only woried if noise was coming from top of engine as in valve noise.

yes I do , mine sounds like a sewing machine when idling , I will talk to the delaer people but you know the reply from them is always the same , I hope the ticking will go away with some more milage , keep us posted please about this annoying engine sound and good luck with it

Yes professor , I am hearing the same, how is the engine doing now few months later ?

Nearly 28K miles and mine still sounds like a diesel when idling. I have switched to using 91 octane and it does help...not a lot at idle but more when accelerating from a stop. It always sounds like the valves need to be tighter but each time I have it serviced they say its normal. After hearing other JLs I have to say its sounds the same as them....good or bad...don't know for sure but sort of just considering it a JEEP thing now.
