I noticed my cowl grill is starting to fade from black to whitish gray. What are you gals and guys using to restore stuff like this?

I used some Mother's VLR, but that didn't make a dent.

My wife's 18 Sahara only looks good for a few days after using Meguiar's marine vinyl protectant. I plan on painting it black to match factory paint. Prime, color and clear. I already did the lights, grill grids and inserts black from silver. Happy wife, she likes it.

I have been using 303 for quite awhile and simply love it, I even started doing what @Rhinebeck01 suggested is taking the same microfiber towel after wiping down all the trim and running boards and wipe my fender liners with it since its on the towel and it made a huge difference.

Get a heat gun and restore the natural finish and after that use 303 aerospace protectant on it to keep it that way.

What specific product from 303 are you using? There are quite a few choices on the website.

Never tried that. What does the heat gun do?

EDIT: NVM...it is supposed to pull out the oils in the plastic but appears to have limited affect. I will try some 303 and see what happens. Worse case, I can have it painted black.

A lot of that trim restoration stuff is only thick silicon with dye in it. It won't last long. If any of you are using Armor All or any similar product, stop. 303 is the only stuff I know of that won't start the greying process in the first place and will also help prevent it. Don't use it weekly, it's not really a detail product. Stay away from that greasy, shiny kid stuff.

Also, If you use drive through car washes, some of those chemicals are terrible for plastic trim and headlights.

On my XJ, I used a plastic specific paint from Rustoleum, Krylon also makes a similar product called Fusion. These paints chemically bond with the plastic. I painted everything that was faded to grey on the XJ and it looked good for several years, until the insurance company got it.

All the 303 protectants are the same product (Auto, Marine, Aerospace), just the label is different. Get whichever one you can find the cheapest.
