Never tried that. What does the heat gun do?
EDIT: NVM...it is supposed to pull out the oils in the plastic but appears to have limited affect. I will try some 303 and see what happens. Worse case, I can have it painted black.
Just parroting what I read online, but considering plastic is typically nearly 100% hydrocarbon, definitely oil in there somewhere. There is no oil in plastic. During the manufacturing of plastic oil contamination is one of the things checked for in QC.
Polyethylene - ethylene + catalyst - chemical reaction = plasticJust parroting what I read online, but considering plastic is typically nearly 100% hydrocarbon, definitely oil in there somewhere.
I get that, but take that argument to the sources online that state heat guns pull the oils back to the surface until there is no more to pull out.Polyethylene - ethylene + catalyst - chemical reaction = plastic
Polypropylene - propylene + catalyst - chemical reaction = plastic.
Certain additives are added to make different types and grades of plastic- the above is a very simplified recipe.
Just because it comes from oil or gas does not mean it has oil in it. I spent 45 years in the plastics manufacturing business, raw plastics - not toys or molded items, only the raw plastic that is sold to make things from plastic.
I am not planning on fighting everyone on the internet. Just thought I would let you know the information you received is incorrect.I get that, but take that argument to the sources online that state heat guns pull the oils back to the surface until there is no more to pull out.
Thanks--heat guns on plastic were never a consideration for me. This was suggested by another forum member.I am not planning on fighting everyone on the internet. Just thought I would let you know the information you received is incorrect.
Will do. My ace in the hole is to just have it painted.Another 303 user here. Let us know how it works out for you... It does a great job keeping plastic from fading but not sure how it will do bringing already faded plastic back...
