Any luck?
Sorry bud..unfortunately not today. I put on my winch mounting plate and winch and right after I decided to put the Atlas door steps on(since it should've been a quick install). **Note: Don't use cheap Duralast T50 Torx bits. They'll warp and twist.** I didn't even get one of the OE hinge bolts off. I tried the supplied T50 in the Jeep kit but I didn't have much leverage with it. So the winch was enough for me to tackle today. I'm going to knock it out tomorrow for sure. I have to buy a better set of bits. I'll post pics of the OE bolts and the Smittybilt replacement bolts for reference.

Thanks. I ordered the same Smittybilt steps for my JLUR and haven't received them yet. Looking at the rounded corners on the JL I wasn't sure if they would actually work or not so quite curious on the outcome. I think I should have mine late this week or early next.

Thanks for the updates.

Ok so you're supposed to torque it to 24 lbs. The metal that contacts the door is square and around the screws is the inset groove it'll bend the outer portion of the step when tightened down. I tested it out and stood on it. Worked okay but something to consider. Thinking about hitting ivan up at smittybilt about it.

Nice!! It looks like you used the bolts that were included with the step. The length wasn’t a problem? I guess that may be a bit obvious as you have them on but wondering. What were the torq specs for the bolts?

Haha yup 24lbs. Once you take the hinge off, there actually a bracket on the inside thats holding in the bolts so even if they're longer bolts it'll be okay. I'll try to snap a photo of them when I redo them. I'm going to run to home depot and see if I can put a piece of metal in between the door and the doorstep bracket right between the two mounting bolts. I'm thinking if it fills that gap I'll be able to tighten the rest down without the outer edges bending. Maybe like a 1 1/4" by 1/2 inch piece of metal. I'll reply back if I have any luck.

Here's a photo of the groove I'm trying to fill with a thin piece of metal. I'll have to look at the kargomasters one. If its shaped to fit inside..it might be a better option. I really lile the look of the Atlas so I'm just gong to make it work. Plus it has a built in bottle opener lol.

As I was uploading the photos below..i thought maybe I'll just add some dang washers. I have hundreds of them laying around!

Here's what I tried. Added some washers that perfectly fit in the groove. Another reason it bends is because the OE bolts have the cone shape you can see in the first photos I posted. I think I'm going to try 2 washers on each bolt go I can really torque it down to specs. And of course, I only have 5 of the washers that perfectly fit. About to get my new wheels put on then pick up some more washers..

I already ordered the Smittybilt, same as what you have. My friend has a JKUR with the Kargomaster steps so I didn’t want to copy what he had exactly. The steps have really come in handy so I had to get some though and agree that the Smittybilt have a great look. Guessing as soon an I get them on, someone will start selling a JL fit step, but waiting has not been on my list of things to do. Lol.

How did it work/look with the washers? Good idea. I will have to start with that.

They help with loading and unloading from your roof. I can't speak for Yokin but I kayak and these are a huge help when loading my 'yak. That way you aren't trying to balance on your door sill. Much more stability. Oh, and it looks cool.
