Overall, the JL looks sick (=awesome for the old timers lol). I agree, the rear looks great. The thin bezel around the the rear glass and the small spoiler really hit it for me. However, I think the black edge along the flares and the 1996 lenses keep the design from being flawless. Also, I think the side mirrors are quite bulky. Everything else is :handsinair:

I think the current term is 'lit'.

As in - The JL is lit!

What are the 1996 lenses. Were they on the 1996 Wranglers?

Walt - nice find. Cool story too. Billy - I wish. I do have a 'late' 95 Wrangler though with the TJ style hinges and hood bumpers.

I feel like the only part of the design they got an A+ on was the corona rings around headlamps. That modernized the entire front end immediately.

Unfortunately it looks like they dropped the ball on several design elements:

fully agree.
The charcoal lip/black edge along fender/flares, and the 1988 Oldsmobile lenses on fender lights, really date the car in a way that hurts overall design character. I'm all for functionally superior throwback features and design, but not going backwards in an antiquated way with no benefit.

Whoever lobbied hard for those two fender design features should be chastised hard af.

Have you ever wondered if Side mirrors should be just under A-pillar anyways, not on door ?

Lol...1996, old look...You all realize the foundation of every Wrangler's styling originated in the 1930's, right?

Jeep typically lags in styling by a decade. When everyone else switched to square headlights in the 70's, Jeep waited until the late 80's to do the same with the YJ.
