When you go exploring… Mud bath!

The wife and I decided to go check out some no maintenance roads in Eastern Iowa on New Year’s Day. Well it turned into a mud bath and when we got out the Jeep needed a bath. Had lots more area to explore but it was greasy mud and was not really looking to get stuck! However it was lots of fun!

We don't have much other than mud, but if you like mud ours is pretty good.

I am fascinated. Why are the sidewalls so high? And what is special about loess (and how do you pronounce it)? Are those roads impassable in a 2wd car when wet? I might have to go to Iowa to see these roads. (Kind of a reversal since mostly people in IA come to CO to drive our roads.)

It is pronounced “Luss”. One of the only places on Earth you find this soil. Almost powder like. These roads were cut through the bluffs for short cuts, rather than driving around the area or Need access to fields, etc. but were never meant to be maintained. Good luck with 2 wheel drive when wet. 4 wheel is a gamble as well. Really helps to have mud tires. All terrain tires can’t shed mud quick enough and you end up with no tread and slide everywhere. Fun place to play though. We love coming out to CO.

Looks fun! That is what they are built for. Except for one problem...those ducks...you loose 1/4" of ground clearance and 5 horsepower for every rubber duck your JL has to haul around. They are the devil's version of toxic Chineese rubber toys.
