MY theme on my 2023 JLR was Red and Black. What I forgot was my black wheels would not look as good all black all the time. So I picked can of Red paint and painted them.

Have some a non-sticky roll of tape (paper tape)

Tape over you disk, lay a big rag over the rest of the wheel and give it about 3 coats over a hour or 2.

Let sit for a few hours in the sun and the put you wheels back on...wait on the pic, it sitting in the sun drying right...

Fuel wheel spokes and you can see the caliper behind is not painted

Wheel removed, I recommend you lift the entire Jeep and remove all wheel then go at

Wheel painted. Use Brake cleaner to remove the overspray

That’s a brake caliper. Unless you used high temp paint, it’ll be pink in about a month.

I'll be honest, I think the use of red as an accent color for vehicles has been beaten to death. It's worse than boring, it's the standard and Jeep themselves foist it upon people who buy Rubicons. That being said, every now and then I see jeeps with very interesting red highlights and I am forced to give them the slow, introspective head nod of approval. I think the biggest problem is people tend to go too heavily into accent colors and it becomes garish. I'm interested to see what you do with this.

I actually used a special formulation specific for Brake Calipers, $52 bucks a can!

Are you going to repaint the backs of the pads every time you need new brakes or leave the replacement pads black?
I have never done a brake on a car in my life and I have had 3 cars with over 100k mi and one with 169k miles.

How do I do it? Easy, don't use the brakes until you get to stop NOW. However I am in my first Automatic trans and I no longer downshift to slow and just the brakes to do a final stop. I will see what the future brings.

So if I need to replace the pads I prob will not paint them, cause I don't want to buy another can of $52 buck paint.

I only did this to add some color to the back of my black spoke wheels. Without it the tire/wheel looks to big and garish. The color I painted them is the same color as my Jeep. I had a Jeep before this, JK Rubicon Recon that was full Red, top, fenders everything. I thought it was a bit too much so when I ordered my JLR I stayed with the Black top and fenders for the contrast.

Yeah, paint is ridiculously expensive now. Should hold up well though.
Let’s see what it looks like with the wheel on it.

Will post a pic later today:

This is not an easy job. Jack up Jeep at all 4 corners, remove tires (88 lbs easch). Now you are setting down working at near ground level.

Page 2: Time to button it up, now you sittin on the ground itself and trying to lift an 88 lb tire and spike 5 lugs. NOT EASY. I did manage to pull it off, it was NOT easy.

The texture on the calipers is such, that you could have had good or better results with a brush. Then you wouldn’t have had overspray and the clean up due to it. The pads get so hot, I doubt the paint will last on them.

Since the advent of traction and stability control, late model vehicles eat brake pads faster than ever, especially the rears. 60-80k miles seems to be the norm these days.

This is not how you should paint brake calipers...

There is also overspray on everything.

It was cleaned off before I put it all back together and there is VERY LITTLE!

Think that's bad?

You should see the clown cars people are turning their 4xe Wranglers into by splattering blue paint on every and any thing.

When I'm swapping out the wheels, I jack it up with just enough clearance, then line up the wheel, slight lift and it's on.
