I've seen lots of threads on this stuff but I haven't seen any fixes. seems like these threads start and get taken over with different issues that are similar, then die off.

i'm on my second JL. but this is my first 3.6L

I now have a 2024 2 door Rubicon. automatic

I get a clunking, you could call it a pop or a knock. not just audible but I feel it through the floor. It’s not loud enough to call it serious but it’s concerning. You have to listen for it to notice.

this happens throughout several different scenarios.

with nothing loose in the jeep. everything is secured.

when im in pretty much any gear and let off the gas. ( clunk )

as soon as I lightly tap it again ( clunk )

on the highway around 50-60. I let off ( clunk ) lightly tap the gas ( clunk )

when im going at any moderate speed and notice a red light, I let off the gas to slow down ( clunk )

when it coasts from 4th to 3rd ( clunk )

then....,seperate issue, when I tap the brake lightly at low speeds right before stopping, the jeep jolts forward.

this is all on smooth pavement. driving straight.

a few other threads are leading me to believe this is normal driveline lash. I hope it is, but it's hard to accept when my other jeep never did it.

I have a 23 3.6. No noticeable noises. Ever now and then a funny shift at low speed. But18k miles no issues

Get a GoPro and mount it under the vehicle and get video to examine what is going on, maybe...

There is a clunk sound when slightly pressing the gas to upshift or lightly pressing the brake to downshift. Sometimes it's also like you said when you slow down at a stoplight. I haven't found a reason for it either. I'll tentatively chalk him up to jeep's shit tuning of this 8AT.

Your clunk as you stop sounds like a loose axle mounting or brake caliper. Check calipers, and check control arms; both front and rear. Have someone drive very slow, hit brakes, while you walk along side and determine where clunk is coming from.

To determine the source of a drivetrain clunk do the following:
  • Rear wheels on the ground, parking brake on; put tranny in neutral and try to rotate driveshaft. Slop at differential?
  • Jack up rear wheels, put tranny in park or first gear and rotate driveshaft. If there is slop, determine where; like u-joint, tranny, etc...
  • Jack up front or rear wheels; apply brakes and rock each wheel back and forth; any clunk or slop?

I mounted a 360 cam underneath both ends..... nothing can be heard. very strange. I felt it and heard it several times, but doesn't seem like anything wrong is happening underneath.

Nothing will ever be done about it so what’s the point in worrying?
