I parked my jeep out in the drive the other night. I noticed on my security cameras that a SUV with the lights off drove around, somebody got out, went to the neighbors and ran back in. Then they stopped in front of my house, two people got out, went to the driver side of the jeep and ran back into their car and drove away. My camera did not capture what they did on that side of the jeep. They were there for about 15 to 20 seconds. A few things popped into my head, they were either checking for unlocked cars or did something to come back later. Mind you, I have a ~8 year old subaru parked in the driveway too and they ignored that. My neighbor doesn't have any jeeps or fiat products, but they do have a newer hyundai suv.

Is there anything that I should be looking for to make sure nothing was skimmed? I know a TSB was issued about this exact issue, is there a way to see if it was applied? Anything else I should be doing to prevent exploitation?

Do you have a manual? Sounds funny but they also check for a manual transmission and typically skip those...best theft detection nowadays

I installed a Ravelco in my 1997 F-250. Installed in a JL, you wouldn't be able to use remote start. And they're damn expensive. But it's an effective anti-theft option nonetheless.

Also helps if you don't want to have it valeted. Sometimes you can convince them to let you park it yourself once they see the stick shift.

Ya, unfortunately our Montreal port is full of corruption. We have literally seen Ontario plated jeeps on the African version of Kijiji (popular for sale site here in Canada)

It sucks.

Ya the port portion is bull crap. But what I mean is at some point the Montreal police actually started throwing thieves in prison. I have a coworker who knows one of the kids that got arrested with the laptop and stuff to clone keys, I feel sad for the kid to be so lost in life.

Get a tazer and set a PIN code. That's what I did. They even make a little box so it's harder to pull the tazer out

If only there was some other step to prevent stuff like this...
Like a unique piece of metal for each vehicle, that you plug into a port and turn, to activate/release the engine. That way, without the physical piece of metal inserted your couldn’t drive off with the car. It would work almost like 2- factor authentication. There would be an electronic security component, and a physical one also. You could even attach it or integrate it into the FOB somehow.

Oh well…. Maybe someday, some Millennial or Gen Z genius will figure it out and make billions with this innovation.

Push button start alone was a dumb idea.

Good point. That key on top is just to the outside storage area where I keep an old lawnmower and weedwhacker and loppers and some old paint. The Tacoma is 12+ years old, and you’d still need the chip i presume, and to defeat various other layers. But your warning is valid.

Its just one layer of security. You need stacked layers of different system types. Digital authentication, alarm, cameras, physical barriers, physical key, lighting and exposure, tracking, deception, behavioral, and the final terminal option, which this state is fairly liberal on.

Anyone can steal anything if they are motivated enough. It’s just a question of whether it is worth the effort and risk.

I agree.....this with a combination of tracking with geofence capability and a neutral block off plate from stores like Destroyer1320 can offer peace of mind in many situations

Expensive wheels are far too easily stolen so adding a true wheel lock that looks like stock from RIMLOX are also good things to look into.

The high dollar and feature filled systems like Compustar t13 pro with IGLA and Drone Mobile have a lot of customers and you will see a lot of feedback on that combined system and options
