2018 JLU Sport S driver here. Tomorrow will make 6 WEEKS in the dealer shop with the dreaded wiring harness issue that I have read about here. Thank God I purchased a platinum warranty because this issue would’ve put me over the edge not even 5 yrs ago. Jeep Cares has been helping the dealer on my case for maybe the last week or two but man is this frustrating. No loaner, warranty only covered $250 in rental reimbursement which was only a long weekend and to top it off, I’ve made two car payments for a rig that I haven’t had possession of for 6 WEEKS!!!

Just venting here. And the sad thing is, I really loved that Jeep! I’m missing so much of the beautiful top and doors off Atlanta weather!

Sorry to hear about your Jeep dealer experience. Sadly, it is all too common.

Which wiring harness are you talking about? The CANBUS connector behind the glove compartment? Another connector?

If the CANBUS connector behind the glove compartment: can you see if you can get the part and do it yourself? I have seen posts on here from fellow members who did it themselves.

I realize this is not Platinum Care treatment, but there’s nothing “platinum” about these Jeeps or these dealers...besides the purchase price. Nevertheless, it might get you back on the road faster.

Good luck.

Actually just heard back from dealer. FCA engineers have requested they change CANBUS which my warranty is willing to pay for IF it actually corrects the problem. If not, I’m out another $450+ AND the part is backordered for another 45 days ?

I waged the same war. I took it a local independent shop and a week later he did what Jeep couldn't. Bryans Auto Repair in Sarasota. He has the equipment and access to all the information Jeep has on these problems.

What I would really like to know is how the hell do you unplug the wires in the can bus behind the glove box? I have been doing major auto restoration all my life and never came across this problem.

Chrysler doesn't have a "platinum" warranty. You either have maxcare or you don't If it's an aftermarket warranty then you got screwed.

That being said any more information on your wiring problem?

Use either a pocket screwdriver or literally a credit card to slot into the sides to release the retainer in the connector. If you look each connector has a small hole to insert something to push the retainer down between the connector and the star connector

The can buss is $97 at the dealer and it takes less than an hour to replace if you can get the wires out of the old buss. The pins are very small and not sealed.

It takes like, 5 minutes? And that's if you go slow.

Used car so Warranty from Credit Union. I can understand their viewpoint though. The dealership has randomly fixed I think 4 different issues from codes only even though there were over 100 thrown codes at some point.

***UPDATE***
After 6 weeks and 3 days my Jeep is finally back home! Want to share a bit of newly found knowledge, if the dealer mechanics seem to waver in the slightest bit concerning how to fix your rig, escalate to dealer ownership and “Jeep Cares” as soon as humanly possible. After getting upwards of 4 different parts repaired or replaced over 4+ weeks and the Jeep still shooting codes like a Christmas tree, I got Jeep Cares involved. Their engineers assisted the dealer mechanics in properly diagnosing the true issue. When the part needed to fix (CANBUS) was backordered for upwards of 45 days, I got the dealer owner involved and the part MAGICALLY showed up in 3. Needless to say, I’m glad this is over with.
This was not a pleasant situation and I’m not sure how or if I could’ve financially handled this without my third party warranty from my credit union nor my current status in life. This literally would’ve broken me 5-10 years ago. Has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth in all honesty. Is the ability to take the top and doors off a vehicle worth all this potential frustration.

Initially, both batteries, shifter module, ABS module, and one other item I can’t remember. The actual culprit was the
Controller Area Network or CANBUS. That’s not to say those other items were not needed but it seemed like they were addressing “symptoms” and not the “root cause” until FCA got involved.
