I have a couple questions regarding mounting a winch. I had bought the QRC full width winch ready bumper plus the Quadratec stealth winch.

it says to torque the bolts to 50ft lbs on each bolt. The two easy to reach ones I did get the click for the 50ft lbs. however the other two are incredibly hard to get and I used a to tighten them quite a bit. I even tried using an rows foot but couldn’t keep it seated t get the torque level where I wanted.

fast forward to today and I was going to instal amber lights in the grill and I think I may have overtorque one of the easy access bolts with maybe 5 foot lbs or so over recommend going the wrong directed and rounded the bolt head. I just hate making mistakes and obviously don’t want the bolt to break I just don’t know enough about torquing in general.

I’m new to winch’s but I still feel comfortable that it won’t come off and kill me, but I just wanted some advice on it. Also if the bolt head is rounded how much do you think a shop could potentionally charge to remove it.

Ten percent over torque is within normal tolerance, don’t worry about it.

If you do decide to change the bolt, buy the bolt extractor set the shop will use and you’ll save money, and have the tool set forever.

I have the QRC bumper. Bolt access to the winch plate is incredibly difficult to access. I really needed two elbows to get to them, and wound up doing some advanced mechanic yoga to get to them. If you really wanted them out and a socket just won’t work anymore, try a bolt extractor. It would probably be easier to remove the bumper to get better access.

Or just send it. 5 lbs over torque isn’t a big deal. A rounded bolt head is only a big deal if you need to get it out.
