Hello all, my entirely stock Willys is due for new tires, im looking to go up in size from the 255 stock tires to 285 (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...5QROCAT3&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes) tires.

What would I need to do (if anything) to prevent rubbing/clearance in the front and spare tire? or anything else that I would have to consider going up in tire size.

Any advice is welcomed and very appreciated

if you want to have absolutely no rub at all get 275/75/17 or true 32"s
Tire Size 275/70R17 | Tire Rack

285/70/17 will work for you if you don't offroad and are trying to avoid rub at full lock and full stuff - sway bar disconnected.

If you dont off-road and are purely onroad you should be fine with 285/70/17 heck even 285/75/17 - 34s

It's been said here that 285/70R17 is the largest you can fit on a stock non-Rubicon with stock wheels, but I have wondered if the Willys was not an exception to that rule myself.
Someone on one of the Facebook Wrangler threads supposedly fit 285/75R17's on a stock Willys with stock wheels without any rubbing issues.
Like you, I'd appreciate some firsthand testimony on this as well...

Been monitoring this thread, as I am interested in installing 275/75/17 tires on my Sport (with Willys rims). Main concerns are:

-If the stock, non-heavy duty brakes and drivetrain are enough to handle the additional weight of 275/75/17's.

-If there is enough clearance with the Sport's stock bumper and tire carrier to accommodate a 275/75/17 spare tire.

Didn't intend to hijack this thread, but just thought the discussion might further help OP and others with similar configs. Thanks in advance and happy Jeepin'!

Does anyone make a 275/75/17 size tire? I have never seen that size on any tire websites.

Same here, that's why I was surprised to see Gray Wolf's recommendation above.

But before that he stated, "if you want to have absolutely no rub at all get 275/75/17..."
Regardless, I'd be interested in either tire size, as they could be a nice sweet spot between 255 and 285.

Thank you all for the imput. Would I have any trouble with speed calibration or anything like that? I plan on changing my tires during my break from school so I have very limited time

I switched to 285/70/17 5 years ago. I believe there is only a 2 mph difference on the highway. Not enough to matter. 31,000 miles later, on the BFG KO2's and them having to be replaced, I switch to Toyo Open Country AT3. Much better road feel. From what others have said, better wear and off-road too.
