The Willys was at stock height when those pics were taken. I have since lifted it for more travel for off-roading.

Jeep Wrangler JL Willys Stock Tire Size Question 5DBDBD61-A6A7-4C06-8C1E-F378BE3C559F

The black lug nuts are actually locking wheel nuts from Gorilla. I went with a full set which includes 4 sets of 5 lugs for each wheel on the ground plus 3 more for the spare & the wheel key. The part number for those is 96644BDX.
LOOKS GOOD!!!
I am currently at the stock willys 255/75/17 and looking into the same setup as you.
What is your MPG at now after the upgrade of tire? Did you regear?

I did a 949-mile road trip right after I put the tires on back in May. I averaged 23.2 MPG with most of the driving at freeway speeds.

I'm not sure what it is now as most of my miles are either low speeds around town or even lower speeds on the trails with the occasional short trip on the freeway. And, of course, it's been lifted since I made that trip.

I did not regear. The 8spd/3.45:1 gear combination seems to work well. That size tire which is 33.8" tall at recommended PSI which is 1.7" taller than the stock 255's at recommended PSI.

I also like the way the OWLs go with my Bright White Willys.
I am an old school guy and dig the white letter Firestones, but when I was able to score some 392 takeoffs with white letter BFGā€™s......I had to take the plunge.

One oddity, though......the wife really misses the tire singing of the LT255/75R17 Destination MTā€™s.

Has anyone had any issues when taking the BFG 285/70/17 KO2's from a Rubicon and putting them on their Willys? I have a buddy who has a '20 Rubicon with 3500 miles and he wants to get new rims and tires. He said he would give the stock rims & tires to me for nothing. I would probably just take the tires from him as I like the stock Willys rims. Does the spare fit ok on the back? Has anyone experienced the tires rubbing? I would have the dealer re flash for the new tires size. How is it on the highway with the 3.45 rear end?

Not an issue. My sister put them on her Sport with no problems. Even the speedometer is close. There isnā€™t enough difference between 32.1ā€ (255/75/17) and 32.6ā€ (275/70/17) for it to be an issue.

What lift kit are you using in this pic?

thanks!

I am running the 285/70/17 on my 2020 Willys! NO spacers, no rubbing problems at all (first picture without the spring lift). I did have steinjager adjustable control arms and track bars in preparation for the 33s and spring lift. Still didnā€™t rub without the springs though

Second picture is when I upgraded the end links, Fox ATS steering stabilizer and got some take off rubicon springs (taken off the unlimited rubicons equipped with steel bumpers) from Rubitrux which gave me about 1.5-2 inches. Full articulation no rubbing (and running front and rear steel bumpers) love it

Spare fit great in the back, both with my stock bumper and my new steel one. Itā€™s just the perfect set up Iā€™m telling you. (See last picture below)

I also added a throttle body spacer, cold air intake and a cat back 3inch exhaust and gave it a lot of horsepower and torque to help handle the difference in everything. 3.6 L Etorque, she purrs now, my husband compared it to his 3.7 L 2017 Mustang with flowmaster outlaws and a 3 inch X pipe lmfao. Traded my 2018 GT for this Jeep and the 33s let me keep every bit of the horsepower and torque gains front mods without regearing āœŒšŸ¼

I'm going to keep my stock Firestone Destination M/T2 tires until they need replacing but if I had to replace them today, I think I would go with these (no lift or spacers) to see how they look:

I've not had any issues. I have BFG KO2s 285\70\17 from a Gladiator Rubicon. No issues with rubbing or with spare tire fitting. I've not noticed a difference in gas mileage or performance on the highway.

Yeah I never will use spacers so glad I didnā€™t have to!! And we go off-roading on the sand a lot so the extra height helped especially when I disconnect my end links. The springs and shocks are a fair price (only 400$) and handle amazing. I pray some fellow Willys found the book I wrote helpful šŸ¤£āœŒšŸ¼

Does anyone know or venture to guess why Jeep chose to use Firestone size LT255/75R17 over Firestone LT285/70R17 since they both fit the stock Willys wheels?

The Firestone LT285/70R17 does not appear to be available in OWL or Load C so maybe that's the reason???

I think keeping the stock tires smaller is just a work around for Jeep to claim better gas mileage. Jeep knows the majority of people are putting some sort of larger tire on but to keep unknowing customers and the EPA happy they keep the tires small so the reported mpg is higher.
