I think it depends on the dealer. My order is price protected until I get it. I dont have a trade in but have been told they determine the trade in value at the time of trade in which makes sense to me.
Right, but they kind of have you over a barrel after you've waited weeks and deposit placed. This is especially true if you got a great deal on the new one -- the want to make up lost profit by low balling your trade. But that's the way it works, so is what it is.
It would be best to get rid of your existing vehicle somewhere else like Carvana, CarMax, or private sale, even if you do lose tax savings of a trade in. But yeah, that's a hassle.
