I'm getting different answers and I was wondering if I could get some advice.

I'm building out my JLURT and I'm looking to run either 38x13.50 or 39x13.50 tires with 17x9 wheels with a -12mm offset. They only come with 4.5 inch backspacing, but I need 3.5 inch backspacing wheels. Which size spacer would I need to run either tire size? I was told a 1.5in adaptor would do the trick. Does that sound about right to you guys?

Any advice would be grateful, this is the only thing holding me back from finishing my build.

Thanks in advance.

You will want to go with either Spidertrax or Synergy wheels spacers. These are the two top tier brands. I have run both with zero issues.

That being said, neither make a 1.5 spacer for the JL. Spidertrax makes a 1.75 and Synergy makes a 1.625.

Either of these will work. Which lift kit do you have, and how many inches? This can play a role in which one is a better choice. Typically the further they stick out the less likely you are to rub when turning. However, some states have rules against tires sticking out. With either option, your tires will stick out.

As for lift I have the 2.5in X-factor with high fenders and stubby front bumper.

I'm in Florida and everyone runs tires pass the fender, it's the norm over here.

So with the 2.5in lift kit, I would say the 1.75in would be the better option?

I believe Lite Brite and Kevin from YouTube are running the 38x13.50s with 4.5 backspacing and no wheel spacers. Just search Jeep JL 38s.

Personally I would run spacers for a little more room. Either size should work fine.

My plan is 4 inch lift, 4.5 backspacing plus 1.625 wheel spacers with 40s. All the parts are here just waiting for the jeep to arrive. Currently have a JK with 38s.

They are running 3.5 with -12mm offset.

I went with Fuel D100 Zephyr instead, they have -38mm offset which is 3.6 backspacing available.

I know when they were running the MB 352 wheels they said 3.5 backspacing in the video, but those wheels actually have 4.5 backspacing. They are 17x9 -12 which is 4.5.

The wheels you went with sound like they will work fine. Have you decided which tire yet?

My choices in order were:

1. Milestar Patagonia 40x13.50
2. BFG KM3 39x13.50
3. Cooper STT Pro 40x13.50

The Milestars were backordered with no estimated ship date. The BFGs jumped in price from $350 to $400. I told the shop to order the Coopers. The manager said let me check on the Milestars one last time. Turns out the crate just arrived so I lucked out.

Oh, I thought that was accurate information they were sharing but mistakes happens.

Yeah, Im pretty confident and got exactly what I wanted with the wheel choice I went with.

The top two you listed is the same order I had in mind. The Patagonia's first due to weight/load and thread design with the KM3 following very far behind. I'm thinking 38s due to my garage height (standard garage). If I can fit 40s then I might consider it depend on weight. My wheels are 39lbs and the 38's are 81 or 83 lbs, can't remember at the moment but that puts me under 125 lbs per corner.

I seen a set for $310 a piece but waited to long, either way I'm waiting to hear from RK on how big of a tire I can go on a 2.5 lift while still fitting in my garage.

Congrats on nailing you decision.

The only reason I knew the correct wheel backspacing is because I've had those same wheels a couple times.

I'm glad you found a wheel you like that will work. In my experience it is usually one or the other lol.

The Milestar was the clear front runner for me as well. I have them on my current jeep. They are quiet, ride smooth, stay balanced, and do well on snow which is rare for an MT.

Added bonus, I weighed a couple of the 38s on a scale, and they came in at about 78.5 which is a few pounds lighter than advertised. Can't beat that!

Correct BACKSPACE--(bs) is dependent on the INDIVIDUAL--

It'll all depend on your desire for "TIRE PLACEMENT" whether legal/non-legal, or pure aesthetics !!

Mine are 2-1/4" outside the front fender flares and I don't have any law requirements--

My total tire/wheel weight is 93lbs/ea--
