Now, we do not yet have a restart date, and I have made it very clear in the past few days that the members of the International Executive Board and myself feel strongly that it is simply too risky to...We are all in this together

I hate unions, or what they’ve become. I don’t believe one word of this. Notice he had nothing specific about what was wrong. No issue. He didn’t say we need xyz, he just complained. Unions need to get republicans behind them. They’ll be happy to free the workers from democrats even if they don’t join the republicans.

I read articles this morning citing May 18 as the new restart date for automotive factories.

The local UAW office said their "executive committee" have been touring the plant to review the changes being made to protect their members but that there are more changes to be made. They said there would be an "all call" to all employees.

Maybe we will get lucky and they will resume production prior to May 18th.

I got my Robocall today. It basically said that we'll call you when you're supposed to return.

I guess we're getting somewhere.

Autoweek is reporting that US car manufacturers aren't looking to go to full production for awhile because car buyer interest is 20% of what it was before covid and they don't want to pump out more cars to sit on dealer lots. Plus they want to see how many people can afford to buy a car.

Hopefully people will spend on saving for future problems and reduce unnecessary material purchases. The rule still applies, save 6 months of income no matter how much you need to sacrifice to get there.

agreed.. but there's a large % of people that havent looked into, cant or wont look into saving money of any amount for the future out come. those are the ones that believe that the government will pay them when the $h*t hits the fan or retire. what people dont realize is that you cant bank on living off the government. now the people are realizing that they are in deep $h*t and have no money (let alone a emergency fund). in all this, they still manage to get a $5 cup of joe on a daily base while complaining that they have no money for a $10 burger or a gallon of gas to make it thru the week.

on the other side of things, there are folk that make every effort in saving money and with the covid 19. they are saving more money to prepare for the future of the unknown. they will be the one that will survive.

i do believe that once the "normal" or "new normal" come around folks will still continues to not spend money because they have survive without the normal everyday spending on extra stuff.

this will create a new economic views. one will be that folks will have a better understanding in saving money. the only down fall (sorta speak) will be that the economy could or will take a dump.

Honestly, I don't see it. I wish I did, but I just don't. Especially once we have a vaccine, I see things going right back to the way they were, ready to get blind sided by the next disaster.

As an example, my local school district is still peddling the possibility of having high school graduation completely as normal, and people in the community are largely for it if social media is anything to go by (which, trust me, I'm not a social media fan). Let me repeat: In a few weeks, in a state that was in the top five for number of virus cases, people are clamoring for a traditional gathering of thousands of people in an enclosed area to take place just as it always has. If that doesn't paint a bleak picture, we just had a local food attraction open back up this past weekend, and people formed lines blocks long - this is while we're still under a shelter in place order.

I think we're going to see the opposite of a "new normal." I know it's pessimistic, but I think we're going to see a hunger to return to normal as quickly as possible. Just ask the dudes carrying automatic rifles outside your state capital. And no, I don't mean the capital police.
