My rig: '20 2 door sport s, 2.0T. 72k miles.
Had my first major(ish) issue yesterday, after almost four years and over 70k miles.
Fortunatly, it was one of those bad situations that couldn't have gone better.
I was about two blocks from work, when another driver told me I was loosing a ton of transmission fluid. She had been driving and shifting normal, so as I continued to work, I opened the guages to check temps.
Transmission temp was fine, but coolent temp was pushing 230 (190 - 210 is normal for mine).
When I pulled into my parking space at work, looking underneath revealed a waterfal of coolent pouring out from the engine area.
My first thought - after the initial shock - was; 'Well, thats bad...and possibly good. A blown head gasket or cracked block wouldn't pour out like that. Chances are it's a hose or a fitting.
I got buisy and before 30 minutes were up, I hadna tow from AAA on the way and a sevice appointment set up at Chapman Chrysler/Jeep in Henderson.
Now a quick aside that has relevance to the upcoming service:
Last month, I bought out my lease (4 months early) and as part of the buyout, they extended my power train warrentee to 130,000 miles and 3 more years.
I also, just two days before, got a refund debit card from Chyrsler for $200.
Back to yesterday;
Mellissa the service tech called me as soon as the Jeep was dropped off. This was 8:45am. Told me it probably wouldn't be looked at until well into the afternoon, but would call me as soon as she knew anything.
So from there, I simply went about my day at work. Until...
Mellissa called back at 1:15pm. The issue was a cracked water inlet. The repair, being so simple, was already done under (my new extended) warrentee, minus a $100 deductable -that I put on the debit card I just received from Chrysler.
I picked my girl up at 2:30 and thanked my stars at how well the whole situation went. 8.5 hours from initial leak to driving off fully repaired.
I thought about stopping a casino and playing Megabucks, but decided to hold onto my luck for every day stuff.
Turns out I was right. Found out later that evening, an employee who's been out weeks injured from a car wreck, has been cleared to come back on Monday and I'll have a my fulltime crew back next week.
