I'm extremely gunshy now of any spacers that appear to have the same material silver studs as the ones on Crown's spacers. I think I could only go with spacers that have steel studs.

I believe you'll find that they are all steel studs. Some steels are better than others and some heat treat processes can be fouled up so bad that things like you experienced happen. I would make a wild axe guess that you experienced embrittlement from a process, probably the plating process and the studs were not hydrogen or nitrogen embrittlement relieved, or not within the required timeframe after plating.

Any spacer from any manufacturer has the potential to do that if they are not hubcentric (I don’t know if yours are or are not).

The studs primary job is to hold the wheel against the hub, not to carry the weight of the vehicle.

As a temporary measure I would pick up a set of lug nuts from your local parts store. That will at least give you time to source the matching ones. I don’t know if it technically matters but I would swap out all of the lug nuts on that wheel while you are waiting for the matching ones to arrive and not mix them.

I said hell with it and just got these. I'm not paying anywhere from $10 - $18 for a single OEM Jeep hex nut when I can get a set of 20 locking nuts with the spline tool for $40.

Those should work so long as they’re a 60° taper.
